The Movies.

Did anyone ever play or make movies on "The Movies" game.

I didn't really play the RTS game much. In fact I only played it to unlock all the sets, etc for the movie making part of the game.

But I did enjoy making some movies with the movie making application which was actually pretty good and revolutionary in my opinion. I also joined the "The Movies Online" (TMO) community to post and rate other people's movies. IMO has been closed down now, but I also posted some on Youtube.

If anyone is interested in producing movies, I would recommend this game as I am not aware of any other application like it. Although it has its limitations and can be quite frustrating to use.

This is a short sci-fi movie called "Legacy" I did using the "Movies" game a few years ago. Sorry there is no VO, only subtitles.

That game was insanely hard. I give you a high-four on this. I could never make a movie in that game lol. It's hard to get a 5 star study for a few decades running, even while working your stars to death.

The movie making part of the game was excellent and you really could make some interesting movies out of it.

The main problem was that the interface was made around the rather bland RTS part of the game (to which you are principally referring) making the process of making movies more difficult than it need to be.

It was a shame because the application was very flexible and it was a vehicle to try your hand at amateur movie production.

IMO, they should have just concentrated on the movie making aspect and just created a movie-making application rather than a game.

The application did have it's limitations in content. For instance you could not make Avatar or even a movie like Gladiator. But you could certainly do war films and sci-fi.

I used to be part of the Movies community where you could post movies. But the voting and rating system was a joke because rating was more a political excerise than a jusdgement of quality. In the end the highest rated movies were those that managed to play the system, while many good movies (and I don't mean mine) often lost out.

I will always keep the game though in case I feel like making movies for myself again. The thing that puts me off is not the effort of thinking up the story or even editing the movie, it is the hassle of having to do it as part of the tedious RTS game that is the problam.

Tedious, but rewarding. I always ran into the problems of making my stars into food-beer addicts. Was their a better way to de-stress yourself than drinking and eating back in the day? I mean come on!

I only played the RTS game once. It was OK and even quite interesting, but average for world builder RTS. But the main reason I played it was to unlock the sets, costumes, etc because you had to play the RTS game to be able to use the sets in the movies application when making real movies for actual public consumption.

Eltu, perhaps you should transfer this thread to the video games section and call it simply "The Movies". Then people can use it to talk about the game or even post their own movies.
