Default When you say "Oel Ngati Kameie" to someone...

...do you feel like you should bow? Kind of like a Japanese greeting?

I would do what Tsu'tey did in the mountains, touch my head (or whatever the f*** he did), kinda like being blessed.

What's really strange is how I've been doing that gesture as a salute to anything I respect ever since I was about 15. When Avatar came out 4 years later I thought, "Damn! They stole my move!"

However yes... the phrase actually sounds Japanese when you think about it.

A little bow would be too human, I think. We have to have some differences
Yeah, Neytiri touches her forehead and brings her hand away when Jake is first brought back to Hometree and Tsu'tey does it when Jake is about to get his ikran

I agree, it's a bit human really. When I was in London as a Na'vi for the bluray release, a few people said it to me and some of them touched their forehead like that, so I did it back

All good information, and thank you!

However, I was really only speaking of a urge to do something, and that particular phrase just sounds very Japanese. We learned a bunch of conversational Japanese greetings and such when I studied karate. We did a lot of bowing in class too. Perhaps I'm just channeling my inner Mr. Miyagi.
