Mars Attacks reminded me of Avatar.
The Martians are like the RDA. Also the martians are much smaller than the humans, in the same way humans are smaller than the Na'vi. Last edited by neytirifanboy; 05-22-2010 at 07:40 PM. |

The Mission, it's the Avatar of the 80's, set up on the 18th century.
And with a sad end. But heck, it's still a great movie.

Another movie that reminded me of Avatar is King Arthur. The blue painted woad warriors reminded me of the Na'vi. |

Avatar made me think FernGully (that's how I first described Avatar to some friends). The two movies have similar plotlines, though obviously Avatar has a much different impact.

I will have to watch Ferngully sometime since it is mentioned so much in relation to Avatar.

I've never seen this film but I happened to stumble upon mention of it:
Battle for Terra was an obscure independent movie released about three or four years ago. Its content seems to be EXACTLY like Avatar's in terms of basic plot, characters, and ethical dilemmas (not to mention that it was released in 3-D in the small handful of movie theaters it played in). Its like a children's animated version of Avatar. See the similarities? Last edited by Banefull; 05-25-2011 at 05:56 AM. |

But if you got the chance to watch it, do it. It's an animated cgi film but very intense and brings out the emotions in you. The ending was TOO similar to Avatar when the human turns against his own and destroys the main machine to save the aliens and their planet, just like Jake did. This, my favorite scene from Lion King!
Rafiki is the old and wise mandrill shaman of the Pridelands. He is shown to be a dear friend to Mufasa. This is reflected in his name, which is a play on the Arabic word "rafiki", meaning "my friend". When Simba runs away and his family believes him dead, Rafiki journeys to the area where Simba lives with Timon and Pumbaa, Rafiki observes Simba and recognizes, at least in principle, that he is suffering from a ponderous emotional burden. To treat it, he approaches the young lion and teaches him a few playful (and sometimes painful) lessons about learning from the past, not living in it. He also points out that the spirit and values of his 'father' (which I interpret of his predecessors) ... continue to live in Simba himself. In the musical, the character of Rafiki was modified. Because director Julie Taymor felt that the story lacked the presence of a strong female, Rafiki was changed into a female mandrill. Rafiki's role is expanded in the musical. She sings the song "Circle of Life" and her painting scene is extended. She also sings a song called "Rafiki Mourns", in which she mourns Mufasa's death. She also has a brief role in Nala's song "Shadowland", blessing Nala for her journey to find help. Instead of finding Simba's scent on dust, Rafiki hears Simba's song "Endless Night" on the wind. Rafiki meets Simba and shows him that his father lives on inside him through the song "He Lives in You". In the essence I see the similarity of Mo'at to Rafiki!

None, Avatar is one of a kind.
But when I first seen Avatar it kinda reminded me of Dances With Wolves, which is also a great movie.

Not many movies remind me of Avatar, but there are a couple that bring out similar feelings as Avatar.
They are; Last of the Mohicans, and Dances With Wolves.

Oddly enough, Blade Runner does for some bizarre reason. I gues it's kinda like the anti-Avatar in many ways, but it also shares a few attributes, too.

Not so odd, really. Honestly, I saw a lot of Blade Runner's Earth in the extended opening sequence of Avatar.

Hmm, this is very true... But I somehow link Blade Runner with Pandora itself in my mind. Don't ask me how it works, because it probably doesn't... I just... yeah, it reminds me of it.

Oh yes there's also the European animated sci-fi movies known as Fantastic Planet and Lightyears (aka Gandahar).
