Pirates Of The Caribbean Four To Be Shot In 3D!

Pirates of the Caribbean: On Strange Tides will be shot in 3D, with Johnny Depp but without Orlando Bloom and Keira Knightly. Read it here.

It's no surprise that any new blockbuster movie is to be shot in 3D after the massive success of Avatar. What amazes me is the way in which Avatar created a trend of 3D technology.

Avatar has also inspired gaming developers to create 3D games. UBIsoft have predicted that 50% of games in 2012 will be 3D. This begs the question 'Will TV technology be as quick to develop? Will it be cheap enough for the general public?' Read it here.

hmm, without Keira Knightly and Orlando Bloom? I don't know about this. They are just as much a part of the Pirates of the Caribbean movies as Jack Sparrow. Then again, remembering how the World's End ended, I guess the story of Elizabeth Swan and Will Turner is complete. I wonder what they will do with this new one .

I don't know why they were called deadweights in that article... I'm no movie critic but I didn't think their performances were too bad. It's odd that Orlando Bloom is in three of my favourite movies/movie trilogies; Lord of the Rings, Pirates of the Caribbean and Kingdom of Heaven. I have no especially strong feelings towards him as an actor but he's not altogether terrible.
I'm not sure if it will be Pirates of the Caribbean without them tbh

I agree. That is why I am wondering why they are bothering to do a fourth movie. Orlando Bloom is ok as an actor. I loved LOTR and PotC too and he didn't do a bad job. He plays swashbuckling hero or bad-ass well. However, he was miscast as Paris in Troy. Of course, that movie had many terrible problems. I thought he was flat in that one.

I think Sean Bean was good as Odysseus and Brian Cox, one of my favourite actors

Back to Pirates of the Caribbean, Ian McShane as Edward Teach, aka Blackbeard, will be interesting. I don't think he will be as villainous as Bill Nighy was as Davy Jones. And the nature of the characters will mean he isn't as bad either, what with Davy Jones being much more badass than Blackbeard. But he has a good villain voice
I wonder how Penelope Cruz will fare, too

Troy's fighting was the only good part in it. That and one line: "You left me for this (Menelaus pointing at a defeated Paris while yelling at Helen)."

Hmm, I didn't know Penelope Cruz will be in it. This should be...interesting. Blackbeard will be fun, I think. I guess we will just have to wait and see.

Meh, 3D does not make a film good. Look at Clash Of The Titans (Ok... from what I've heard, the film itself was bad too...). 3D only makes a great film epic.

Clash of the Titans was a regular film converted to 3D in lieu of Avatar. The likes of AiW and PotC 4 were/will be filmed exclusively in 3D
I've yet to see Clash of the Titans, I really want to as I have a huge interest in Ancient Greek mythology

I'm excited about it! To me, the series centers around Jack, so no Will or Elizabeth doesn't really bother me. After all, neither of them were really true "pirates" of the caribbean. Barbossa, yes. Jack, yes. The crew of the Pearl, yes. Davy Jones, yes. Will and Elizabeth? ...Not really. They just kept the story going. Now we have a clean slate with real, hardcore pirate characters taking the main roles. That's what I'd like to see for a change.

3D... well, I dunno. Might be good, might be a waste of time on their part. Frankly, I don't really see what they could do with PotC4 to make it look amazing in the 3D, like with Avatar or Alice. But then, might be as amazing as At World's End; we don't know.
