"Thomas Leo "Tom" Clancy Jr. (born April 12, 1947)[notes 1] is an American author, best known for his technically detailed espionage and military science storylines set during and in the aftermath of the Cold War, and several video games which he did not work on, but which bear his name for licensing and promotional purposes. His name is also a brand for similar movie scripts written by ghost writers and many series of non-fiction books on military subjects and merged biographies of key leaders."
Tom Clancy is the only fiction author that I have read and enjoyed. He is coming out with another book this year (in December) Anyone else excited for dead or alive (http://http://artsbeat.blogs.nytimes...ll-characters/) I might be a more excited about this than I am for avatar re-release because TC books are sooooooooo good

"The Hunt for Red October" is one of my all time favorite reads. I tried to get into "Red Storm Rising" and failed. I agree, his yarns are enjoyable, if a bit predictable. He can lose one quickly with the tech, although I can usually keep up, being both a compleat geek and former USAF officer.

Ach, the sacrifice was rather tame, I must confess. I probably picked the only eight year period in recent memory where we were not actively involved at least *somewhere* in the world! I have X-Plane 9, upgraded to 9.5. Version 10 is coming out late this year, Austin sez. At only $29, X-Plane is a complete steal. Austin would agree.
If you get set up with 9.5, there's a gent trying to make online netplay a reality. I'd love to hook up with a fellow pilot from ToS!

yeah I like his books too! I'm not that much of a reader (I read hitchhikers guide to galaxy, some red dwarfs, LOTR and hobit, Clancy books but that's about it). Once I saw Net Force II on my grandfathers bookshelf (the big one, it's about the same size as red october, not the smaller ones) and I was completely immersed. I loved the book. Red october is awesome too and I loved rainbow six. I also read loads of small format net force books, though some of them were kinda boring and some of them good.

They made a game from it too.
I haven't read much of his, but I know it's definitely good... been meaning to read Red Storm Rising some time actually. The Hunt For Red October is pure win though

I'm a book fan as well as a game fan. I've read the 4 books, "The Hunt for Red October", "Paitoit Games", and "Clear and Present Danger" and "HAWX". I am in the process of reading Rainbow six and Splinter cell.
