Doesn't have to be Avatar, any quote will do. Inspirational, funny, whatever. Given my current situation I'll start with these two. (For the sake of skimming, narrow it down to two, possibly three short ones.
"No regrets then?" "A few. But just a few. You?" "Oh, enough to fill a lifetime. So much has been lost, so much forgotten. So much pain, so much blood. And for what, I wonder. The past tempts us, the present confuses us, and the future frightens us. And our lives slip away, moment by moment, lost in that vast terrible in between. But there is still time to seize that one last fragile moment. To choose something better, to make a difference, as you say. And I intend to do just that." Babylon 5 Centauri Emperor and Sheridan, 'The Coming of Shadows' And of course my sig quote from Georgia O'Keefe: "It is what I have done, with where I have been that should be of interest." I tested positive for breast cancer on Friday. I got the call from the doctor yesterday. Babylon 5 has gotten me through a lot of tough situations in the past, I'm turning to it once again for inspiration and strength in my current 'hour of need'. My blog has more details if you want to read: Walkabout Revelations

“All men dream: but not equally. Those who dream by night in the dusty recesses of their minds wake in the day to find that it was vanity: but the dreamers of the day are dangerous men, for they may act their dreams with open eyes, to make it possible.”
-T.E. Lawrence of Arabia “The ultimate measure of a man is not where he stands in moments of comfort and convenience, but where he stands at times of challenge and controversy.” -Martin Luther King, Jr. “The Roots of Violence: Wealth without work, Pleasure without conscience, Knowledge without character, Commerce without morality, Science without humanity, Worship without sacrifice, Politics without principles” -Mohandas Gandhi

"The rest of the dominoes will fall like a house of cards. Checkmate." - Zapp Brannigan (Billy West of Futurama)
"You win again gravity!" - Phillip J. Fry (Billy West of Futurama) "Had I the heavens' embroidered cloth, enwrought with gold and silver light. The blue and the dim and the dark cloths of night and light and the half light, I would spread the cloths under you feet; But I, being poor have only my dreams; I have spread my dreams under your feet; Thread softly because you thread on my dreams" - W.B.Yeats "I don't think the human race will survive the next thousand years, unless we spread into space. There are too many accidents that can befall life on a single planet. But I'm an optimist. We will reach out to the stars." - Stephen Hawking |

In my opinion one of the greatest quotes of our time.
on Iwo Jima: "Uncommon valor was a common virtue." Or Shakespeare-"We few, we brave few, we band or brothers. For whoever sheds his blood with me, shall be my brother."

Physics is like sex. Sure, it may give some practical results, but that's not why we do it.
- Richard P. Feynman The fewer the facts, the stronger the opinion. Arnold H. Glasow Creationists make it sound as though a 'theory' is something you dreamt up after being drunk all night. Isaac Asimov Isn't it enough to see that a garden is beautiful without having to believe that there are fairies at the bottom of it too? Douglas Adams I don't believe in an afterlife, so I don't have to spend my whole life fearing hell, or fearing heaven even more. For whatever the tortures of hell, I think the boredom of heaven would be even worse. Isaac Asimov "The God of the Old Testament is arguably the most unpleasant character in all fiction: jealous and proud of it; a petty, unjust, unforgiving control freak; a vindictive, bloodthirsty ethnic cleanser; a misogynistic, homophobic, racist, infanticidal, genocidal, filicidal, pestilential, megalomaniacal, sadomasochistic, capriciously malevolent bully." Richard Dawkins If privacy is outlawed, only outlaws will have privacy. - Philip R. Zimmermann Jr. Relying on the government to protect your privacy is like asking a peeping tom to install your window blinds. John Perry Barlow Democracy is being allowed to vote for the candidate you dislike least. Robert Byrne Freedom of the press is guaranteed only to those who own one. A. J. Liebling If voting changed anything, they'd make it illegal. Emma Goldman Giving money and power to government is like giving whiskey and car keys to teenage boys. P. J. O'Rourke “If you don't think drugs have done good things for us, then take all of your records, tapes and CD's and burn them.” - Bill Hicks "I hate to advocate drugs, alcohol, violence or insanity to anyone, but they've always worked for me." - Hunter S. Thompson I try to avoid long-range plans and visions - that way I can more easily deal with anything new that comes up. Linus Torvalds Intelligence is the ability to avoid doing work, yet getting the work done. Linus Torvalds Common sense is not so common. Voltaire Mad, adj. Affected with a high degree of intellectual independence. Ambrose Bierce Wit is educated insolence. Aristotle I think the next best thing to solving a problem is finding some humour in it. Frank A. Clark If I had no sense of humour, I would long ago have committed suicide. Mohandas Gandhi Advertisements contain the only truths to be relied on in a newspaper. Mark Twain By trying we can easily endure adversity. Another man's, I mean. Mark Twain Tragedy is when I cut my finger. Comedy is when you fall into an open sewer and die. Mel Brooks Two things are infinite: the universe and human stupidity; and I'm not sure about the universe. Albert Einstein People think of the inventor as a screwball, but no one ever asks the inventor what he thinks of other people. Charles Kettering Reality is merely an illusion, albeit a very persistent one. Albert Einstein Research is what I'm doing when I don't know what I'm doing. Wernher von Braun When you take stuff from one writer it's plagiarism; but when you take it from many writers, it's research. Wilson Mizner All programmers are playwrights and all computers are lousy actors. Unknown Home computers are being called upon to perform many new functions, including the consumption of homework formerly eaten by the dog. Doug Larson Software is like sex: it's better when it's free. Linus Torvalds Intelligence is the ability to avoid doing work, yet getting the work done. Linus Torvalds If Microsoft ever does applications for Linux it means I've won. Linus Torvalds I think computer viruses should count as life. I think it says something about human nature that the only form of life we have created so far is purely destructive. We've created life in our own image. Stephen Hawking Treat your password like your toothbrush. Don't let anybody else use it, and get a new one every six months. Clifford Stoll Doing linear scans over an associative array is like trying to club someone to death with a loaded Uzi. Larry Wall The Internet treats censorship as a malfunction and routes around it. John Perry Barlow The real problem is not whether machines think but whether men do. B. F. Skinner If Python is executable pseudocode, then perl is executable line noise. To err is human... to really foul up requires the root password. If brute force doesn't solve your problems, then you aren't using enough. Unix is user-friendly. It's just very selective about who its friends are. A printer consists of three main parts: the case, the jammed paper tray and the blinking red light The best accelerator available for a Mac is one that causes it to go at 9.81 m/s^2. If you give someone a program, you will frustrate them for a day; if you teach them how to program, you will frustrate them for a lifetime. It is easier to change the specification to fit the program than vice versa. Programmers are tools for converting caffeine into code. Users /nm./: collective term for those who use computers. Users are divided into three types: novice, intermediate and expert. Novice Users: people who are afraid that simply pressing a key might break their computer. Intermediate Users: people who don't know how to fix their computer after they've just pressed a key that broke it. Expert Users: people who break other people's computers. "Where a calculator on the ENIAC is equipped with 18 000 vacuum tubes and weighs 30 tons, computers of the future may have only 1 000 vacuum tubes and perhaps weigh 1½ tons." — Popular Mechanics, March 1949. "I will write on a huge cement block 'BY ACCEPTING THIS BRICK THROUGH YOUR WINDOW, YOU ACCEPT IT AS IS AND AGREE TO MY DISCLAIMER OF ALL WARRANTIES, EXPRESS OR IMPLIED, AS WELL AS DISCLAIMERS OF ALL LIABILITY, DIRECT, INDIRECT, CONSEQUENTIAL OR INCIDENTAL, THAT MAY ARISE FROM THE INSTALLATION OF THIS BRICK INTO YOUR BUILDING.' And then hurl it through the window of a Sony officer and run like hell." — DmncAtrny. Microsoft: Where do you want to go today ? Linux: Where do you want to go tomorrow ? BSD/OS-X: What? Where am I? HELP! "Measuring programming progress by lines of code is like measuring aircraft building progress by weight." — Bill Gates. "Technology is dominated by two types of people: those who understand what they do not manage, and those who manage what they do not understand." -- Putt's Law

"This is an 81 Honda. How dare you!"
-Vince "Guns don't kill people, physics kills people!" -Dick Solomon "Always forgive your enemies - nothing annoys them so much". -Oscar Wilde Well, he may technically have one less than the actual number of quotes he posted since he posted at least one quote twice...

Here's a few of my favourites:
First, a piece from one of my favourite movies, Ferris Bueller's Day Off. "Life moves pretty fast. If you don't stop and look around once in a while, you could miss it." This I believe is from Einstein. "Mankind must put an end to war, before war puts an end to Mankind." And this is from some American general, and likely sums up war in a nutshell. "The objective of war is not to die for your country. It's to make the other bastard die for his."

from the movie "Step Brothers"
"I'm Dale, but you have to call me dragon." "Boats n hoes!" "You're not a doctor, you're a big fat curly headed ****!" "this house is a ****en prison! on planet bull****! in the galaxy of this sucks camel dick!" "Brenan: Listen, I know that we started out as foe. But after that courageous act that you showed me against the one they call Derek, maybe someday we could become friends. Friends who ride majestic, translucent steeds, shooting flaming arrows across the bridge of Hemdale. Dale: I would follow you into the mists of Avalon if that's what you mean."
