So Canada is ramping it up, going into the last remains of the wilderness of temperate rainforests and indigenous communities for the export of oil and in order to increase tar sands mining.
The plans are to construct a pipeline that cuts through pristine wilderness areas, bridges over many pristine streams that harbor the remaining salmon of the Northeast Pacific, through mountains and valleys that are home to endangered species to end in a big industrial harbor at the coast on which first nation people are living from the sea. From there the oil goes on tankers, moving through treacherous waters with reefs and whales, disrupting these ecosystems as well until one day there will be another "Exxon Valdez" will simply destroy it. First nations oppose it, but the money is big, the oil rush has started - if you live in Canada: This is your home! This is not Brasilian Rainforests or some tropical paradise that is endangered, it is your own country. If you love your land (and I mena that not in terms of a nation or country) - do whatever it takes to stop that insanity. Tar sands mining is already the most destructive project of peak oil civilization - don't allow it to grow, don't allow it to destroy the few areas that eluded industrial civilization. Only when we loose ourselves in the stories they have the power to control us. Our culture got lost in the wrong story, a story of death and defeat, of opression and control, of separation and competition. We need a new story!" |
