Am I only an Animal?

Am I human
or am I
just some evolved animal?
Why do you want to limit
all that I can be
to simple particles of matter
and thought energy?

What of my dreams
hopes and fears?
What of my lonliness
and my tears?
What of my joys
and aspirations?

What are these?
qualities of an evolved animal
or something more?

What my desire
for children
and grandchildren too,
is it only for procreation
and the legacy of my memory?

What of striving for nobility,
truth, justice,
compassion, empathy,
qualities that transcend
the ordinary?

Is this not part of being human
that is extraordinary?

Why common sense
in a senseless world?

Why bother then to strive
for anything?

If from dust I came
and dust I return
and in the end
it does not matter?

Why can I not believe
in something that
Evokes me
to Higher Spirituality?

Why are YOU so afraid
to do the same?

Do you think the less of us
or Yourself
because You cannot
or have not experienced it?

Because you cannot Transcend
the small ego self
for the Guidance of Hearing
the Higher One?

Only you are to blame
Burgeoned with shame
guilt, lack of faith and trust?

Its called A Leap of Faith
for a reason
Because only a cup that is empty
can be filled!

If I could respond with my own poem;

To answer a question;
Of depth, intimacy and connection,
Aye, for we are all animals.

No different to any other,
Same in all respects,
As identical to all.

But is an animal not 'human' too?
Are they lacking in such qualities?
Do they not feel the sway?

Procreation - to carry your example - is basic need.
But why can it not trancend that,
To something with more meaning...

Something more than,
Stigmata attatched to it,
In 'word' imprisoned.

Beyond even mere science,
The passing of genes.
Of traits and codes.

When, in an atmosphere,
More than the sum of it's parts,
And beyond scant, callous view...

It floureshes in the minds,
In heat and heart too,
Of such twinned pairs.

Such can be seen in all,
Further than humanity's boundaries.
Stretching across the species.

I seek nothing more than to be,
A simple "animal". As the basal,
Can be beauty within itself.

And an animal remains 'only' an animal.

As long as you 'only' see it as such.

I think I see where you are coming from, its about the native concept of 'all my relations' no separation between ourselves and our natural world

I agree with in your example the need to emphasise 'non distinction' .. it increases awareness to be more sensitive to the animal kingdom, the natural world in general, the counter balance to a world that blanently responds to them as beasts and 'beneath' us therefore subjecgated to unspeakable atrocities, and deliniation of their needs. That I do understand completely

I think I was using it an way that says .. there is something more than 'evolution' as evolved apes .. at play in us as humans .. somthing not defineable by science is where I was going at or not completely definable by the scientific explanation .. that there is a mystery in us that does distinguish us by a degree . .but as per my previous statemtent, not one that should allow us to perceive ourselves as over inflated self-importance compared to the other beings on this planet.
