Default The Land Before Time and Avatar...

Just a few weeks ago I came across this soundtrack/video:

It brought back a lot of memories from childhood. The Land Before Time was my absolute favorite movie as a kid. I believe in part due to the awesome soundtrack. I would watch it over and over...

anyway the point is that the soundtrack was composed by James Horner in 1988, 21 years before Avatar. I couldn't believe it when I found that out. The same person had composed my favorite movie as a kid and as an adult. I almost feel like there was some connection there, like I was partially drawn to Avatar from his style of music...dunno. Fun to think about I guess.

I was talking on IRC with many of you and it seems like a lot of you watched and loved the movie way back when as well...

Yeah, chalk me up as another person who liked Land Before Time as a kid. And by that, I mean THE FIRST ONE, not one of the nearly dozen cash ins that were made afterward.

I wonder if there is some kind of causational relationship between them.

It's funny how you wonder something that you already answered yourself.

.......

Maybe I'm just being dumb, but I don't see the causational relationship there.

It's the lack of relationship what I'm talking about. You acknowledge the fact that the first one was the only proper movie, and the rest were just attemts to cash in on the success of the original, rather than attempts to at least try to develop and further the overall story. So instead of having a properly written story arch, they just make something up that doesn't deviate from the canon too much, usually, and then it's sequel time.

Sorry, I meant a causational relationship between being liking the Land before Time as a kid and liking Avatar as a grownup.

I didn't know that until now either. Up until now, I thought my first exposure to music composed by James Horner was the Star Trek 3 soundtrack.

Irayo, Aketuan, for starting this thread. I too watched The Land Before Time and liked it as a kid (one of the few really good non-Disney animated films). But I wasn't aware until now that the film's composer was James Horner. I agree -- the film's soundtrack is great...and we all know Horner is a great film composer.
