Things I cant find in Learnnavi...

What I seek is simple things, like sweet nothings to tell your mate.
or even something like..."Come On, quit screwing around. Lets go"!
I have gone through alot on learn navi but am not sure what see is the rule when forming sentences or is it different each time?

I have no group to interact with so its hard for me to know or get the rules right. Yes all learn navi has helped and especially Steven Langs Na'vi Ipod lessons which he doesnt seem to do anymore on Naveteria, though I wish he would.
But I also wish to thank all those who have helped me and been patient with me...Not easy on your own...

There is a wealth of information on The LearnNavi forums. Mostly they end up pointing to the dictionary and to Na'vi ina Nutshell doc. All major rules are in there. Anything you need to know about making settences on your own is in there.

And of course if you have questions about the sentence building rules, we are happy to help.

Sweet nothings(if i understand correctly what you mean) are different across cultures aren't they?

1: in Na'vi, Come on and Let's go will be very similar. They will involve the word ko.
2. Quit screwing around is an idiom. You will need to dumb it down into its very literal meaning and then translate the meaning not the words.

That is true in MANY languages. In English, we say that something that is about to happen is "Right around the corner", yet if you were to translate that word for word into German into "Garade um die ecke", theu would look at you and say "WAS"??
The German idiom for that is "Garade vor die tor" or "right in front of the door".

Right. Exactly. If you wanna translate an idiom from English to Na'vi, you have to either use the Na'vi version of the idiom or translate the actual literal meaning.

Uhm, neither "Garade um die Ecke" nor "Garade for die Tor" makes any sense to me, sorry
I guess you mean "gerade" (in a sense of "direkt"/directly or "straight")...
Then it would be rather "Direkt um die Ecke", which would make sense, "Gerade um die Ecke", makes indeed no sense, because ... uhm... straight + curve doesn't fit so well logically/physically.
"Gerade vor dem Tor/der Tür" would not literally mean "right in front of the door", it would be "direkt vor dem Tor/der Tür". In this sentence "gerade" would more mean something which just happened/was there in a temporal sense.

Just to "correct" this... I know I can be a hell of an annoying smart-ass, and this although I'm no german-teacher or whatever. Sorry

Thanks to my Aphasia, I am at times a verbal illiterate even in English, if I had any brains, I would stop trying to learn a language that did not exist before the movie, and just speak in English. Who knows how much Samoan I have forgotten since 1993, I never get to speak that either.

I just wanted to correct it because it was not a 100% correct, it was a fair comment (sachliche Kritik), no personal offense or whatever. I am not in the least bit offended, I am a little bit ashamed that I have forgotten so much, and disgusted with myself for having done so. I was trying to help, but might have clouded the situation for someone who now isn't sure who to believe.
That is the reason that I should just be quiet on the language threads, and leave the comments to those that actually ARE currently multi lingual.

I disagree, Niri Te. And you know why? I am speaking English, learning Norwegian and Na'vi, German is my native language, yeah... But that doesn't mean that I don't make mistakes, even in English, although I've learned it for like 8 years at school and on my own afterwards. I even do too much mistakes in German, too (well, German is some kind of difficult language even for native speakers now and then). Plus I make mistakes in too many other ways. But...

Mistakes are the salt in the soup called life, so to speak. Without making mistakes, you won't be able to learn, at least not from "trial&error"-mechanisms. I guess that's nothing you don't know, but I want to emphasize it because I'll write the following words:

Making mistakes shouldn't keep you from trying/wanting to help other people or even learning and being curious.

So I agree with TireaAean; don't be so hard on yourself.
Sh!t happens and we're all here to learn and to help each other with this AND for sharing our passion for Avatar.

I guess that's kind of OFFTOPIC!!!1111, but so what. Just please don't stop doing what you always did here.
