I should probably invest in one of these blu-ray players. Still, I thought DVD's were good enough.
I guess the moral here, is that everyone likes Avatar.

I think that's a big part of it. Blu-ray was not the big leap forward from DVD's that DVD's were from VHS.

Not gonna lie, the only ONLY reason I have a blu-ray player is Avatar. Sure, I have since made other blu-ray purchases since then. Planet Earth, District 9, HTTYD, a couple of Harry Potter movies and a few others. But the bottom line, those purchases would likely have been regular DVD's if not for Avatar.

I don't have a bluray drive; they're expensive...

I do have two copies of Avatar on bluray though

Avatar 3D on Bluray was for a long time sold as an exclusive bonus with Panasonic 3D TVs it was only recently released as a general release, With Ultra HD (4K detail) and High frame rate 3D being the next jump in technoligy only time will tell what format comes next but I realy like the Bluray format, Like HD content it will probbly take 5+ years to develop and be afforadable for home , I dont see Bluray players as being that expensive you can now buy a basic player for under a $100 in the United States In taking an honest look at the true Global impact of Avatar while there are plenty of people in the background pushing media buttons on faulting the film, if one looks at there real aganda and sales of the film its easy to see right through smoke screen put up by media politics to real public opinion its suprising how often after almost 3 years people still reflect on the film today.

Awesome news kinda long time though...

BluRay players need big time screens with HD support. I'm looking forward in buying one of those Samsung OLED's presented at CES '13

How about DVD version buyers ? I guess the number is greater there

Almost certainly - but depends how they count it as to being distinct from bluray sales since a lot of people got both with the edition that had both the DVD and the Bluray.
