Talking Possibly The Closest Way To Go To Pandora.

So I was just sitting here before I go running, watching youtube video's informing about the Oculus Rift. If you don't know what they are (you live in a cave if ya don't, or don't browse the web ) they're just like a pair of goggles with a screen on the inside, allowing a sensation of presence. Better yet, watch this https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iACAS_RAneE
Anyways, just sitting here and an idea popped into my head; what if we could make the entire world of Pandora and use the OR to actually be there. (Or wrather than us make it, see if JC and his army of animators will do that.)
Lemme know what y'all think, 'cause I feel this could be pretty good for us to experince Pandora.

Well if the production of Avatar sequels goes on as long as I expect and OR is successful, it's definitely a possibility.

I realize it would be insanely expensive, but one of the things I would like to see is someone develop something where you take something like this....

and be able to see what the camera is seeing (and hearing?) through an Oculus Rift in real time.

Basically experiencing flight from the comfort of your couch.

Or you could just appreciate the biodiversity of your own planet, which was the primary intention of the movie's message...

I know I'm probably spoiled in regards to access to open, natural spaces, but you'd be surprised what kinds of things you can find in your own town if you look.

I found a herd of Elk living near my school, a population of salamanders living in a stone retaining wall, trapdoor spiders living on my campus, and tiger beetles living behind my old high school. Plus a wide, wide variety of plants, fungi, and other animals.

The biodiversity of my own backyard skyrocketed recently, and all I did was put in a bird feeder on an old apple tree. I saw a cooper's hawk the other day trying to eat the little birds coming to the feeders.

I say the same as raiden. because even with OR its never the same as a ''real Pandora''.

i've got the same problem with the avatar world in disney land its not Pandora and it dont feel like pandora.

so i enjoy the nature of earth till im gone.

I think that they could do a lot of epic stuff with Ocuius, But experiencing the world of Pandora would be at the top of that list All we can do now is hope FaceBook does not just make it something to navigate their stupid social network site lol. I do believe that they're just giving funding though hopefully...

Awesome post Crickett!

Yeah, I do get what y'all are saying. I do enjoy our Pandora alot, and I've been looking with alot of different "filters" every where. What I mean by filters is like what I could do parkour with, or write about, draw, even just sit there and relax and enjoy nature.

There have already been groups that have created digital virtual environments that mirror "Pandora" some are quite detailed and can be explored online
Pandora magic in second life comes to mind as one such example that lets one
virtually walk in Na'vi Shoes.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yEQzoxw4ZiQ
and yes Oculus Rift could make such an environment even more immersive, "But"
in my experience with Oculus rift I found even the slightest delay in headtracking
would give me bad motion sickness inside of 15 mins that made the experience no fun at all, if all those issues cant be resolved others will likely have the same issues .
as far as Quadrotor Rc aircraft goes there is a huge revolution in what is called FPV or first person view flight with some astounding content , What would be interesting
would be an Advanced RC aircraft like "Smart Bird" with Stereoscopic vision
and combined with Thought guided control "yes this is already possible with the Emotive
Headset.
Smart bird is a highly advanced bio-mimic aircraft that Mirrors how a real bird flys.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nnR8fDW3Ilo
There are Rc flight capable Ikrans as well.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_-cOwob95o4
All of Avatars Flying creatures can from a aerodynamic and physics perspective "truly accully fly"
But more importantly always remember Avatar is a Mirror story, with many as aspects "reflected"
from earths real world peoples, cultures . and Environments, running under a unique fantasy shell.
"Many aspects of the film "feel familiar" because there source comes from something very tangible right here
on earth. "Reflected in Blue"
