What is the meaning of the tooth?

What is the meaning of the tooth on Jake's sash? Is it a tooth that got knocked out when Neytiri whacked him with her bow?

Is it even a tooth?

You know what's odd, when I went to see Avatar for my 11th time last night I just noticed that! I have no idea to be honest, maybe something big he conquered

Well, apparently in one deleted scene he hunts a Sturmbeest, I guess it could be from there or something.

The narrow section is being used to secure the cords holding the knife straps together.
If it is a tooth then it is from a herbivore because of the flat chewing surface. In the movie the hunt is after he started wearing this knife. I don't know if there is any true significance to it for Jake or if it was just used when they, the Na'vi, made the strap. It may also be carved bone.

Looking at the decorations on other people and the numerous beads, feathers, bone and wood used, the Na'vi were a very gifted crafts people and weavers. I am sure they would use anything nature would give them including bones, teeth, sinues, etc... Like most early humans they used everything they could from the animals they killed. It would have been an insult to the animal's life to just take the meat and throw everything else away.

Being a costumer and trying to recreate the Na'vi clothing and accessories, it's been quite a challenge to determine what the various things are made of.

I think its a regular Na'vi tooth, there is no way that it can be a tooth of a sturmbeest.
I'm going with the idea that it is Jake's and that Neytiri knocked it out when she hit him, that could be a deleted scene in the movie, we just don't know

I didn't notice that until you mentioned it.
I don't think it's one of his teeth lol. It looks like some sort of animal's tooth. Maybe something he hunted? Or just decoration?
