Yeah so Avengers: Endgame became the highest WW grossing movie in history.
/Start rant/ Call me cynic but they had to put an extra end scene somewhere in the credits to do so. At least when Avatar was re-released, they had a slew of new scenes included throughout, not only some throwaway end credit scene. Also add that it was in 2009, where ticket prices were lower. Having said that, if this (ticket prices) were taken into account, Gone with the Wind would be the champ,. so... /End rant/ Anywho, it's done, Avatar is no longer the WW box office champ ![]() Of course, WW means World Wide.... |

Avatar is still #1 in my heart, just as it has been since December 2009.

It took 22 movies and a slew of TV shows, along with franchised merchandise and a load of extreme advertising over the course of 11 years that led up to the final conclusion of a saga that became beloved worldwide.
Avatar had one movie, and word-of-mouth. |

^ Indeed! Avatar is impressive in that regard.

Like what Woodsprite mentioned, Avatar was a sort of "standalone" film? It had no lead-up or anticipation, no prior fanbase. It came out of the blue and took that top film rank honestly. Not to bash on the Avengers, but when a series like that takes the "top spot" it almost feels wrong? Avatar was something never seen before, and Avengers is just another superhero movie. I've been pretty bitter about the whole thing, oops. All my friends are into Marvel so they've had a good time picking fun at me. Avatar is always my #1, and I'm excited to see how Avatar 2 performs.

It really is amazing what Avatar was able to accomplish, I always thought it was awesome we were #1 in box office gross and knew it would fall some day, I wish it had fallen to something similar to it though. Something original, ground breaking, and new. I am so tired of the Avengers, I sure didn't want them to be #1. Apart from the trailers I knew nothing of Avatar when I went to see it, I had a close family member who is the same age as me tell me I should go see it and that I would love it. Boy was he right. It was a nice run while it lasted Avatar. I personally am not worried if any of the sequels recapture that crown. As long as they are great movies, I'll be beyond satisfied.

I will admit, though, that despite my disappointment that Endgame beat Avatar worldwide...
...I have to admit Endgame was still a pretty damn-good film. Not as good as Avatar obviously, but damn. It really blew my expectations away. |

I don't really care, although at first I felt a bit sad after hearing it.
