Well I'm afraid the exact opposite is expected to happen. There's currently 6 billion people, and that number is expected to double in the next 25 years.

It's actually thought to be more like 6 1/2 billion people now. We'll have 7 billion before 2020.

Population predictions, for the most part, predict a peak of 9-9.2 Billion people. This should happen in about 50 or so years. The reason has to do with increase in urban development in third world nations.

Overpopulation, in terms of numbers is not a problem. There is plenty of room for everyone. Resources is the problem. Of course, more people means more demand for resources, but you can have 9.2 Billion humans on the earth, with an environment - as long as those 9.2 Billion people aren't huge consumers.
