Default The most amazing film that never was made

In the 1970:s filmmaker and author Alejandro Jodorowsky had a dream that he should make a film out of Frank Herberts Dune. He started to make preparations and he managed to get a lot of talanted people to join the project. Among those who he contacted and who wanted to paticipate was Chris Foss, designing Space ships, H R Giger, designing different settings, Moebius, designing costumes, Mick Jagger playing Feyd Rautha and Salvador Dahli playing the crazy Emperor. If the film had been made it would probably have been absolutely groundbreaking, but also very odd and surrealistic. Unfortunately the project chrashed and the film never came to be. Many years later David Lynch made a rather pale and impersonal film version of Dune, a movie that is easily forgotten.

After the abandonment of Jodorowskys Dune project many of the would be participants went their own ways and created interesting things in other projects. Dahli went on with his surrealistic art, Jagger continued his musical carrieer, Giger came to revolutionize monstermaking and design in the film Alien and Chris Foss continued to paint space ships that have become iconic in SF. Dan O Bannon who also was involved in the Dune project came to write the script for Alien.

In 1977 the first Star Wars movie came and become a very big success. Interestingly enough one can see designs of Space ships (both in the movie and also in the art sketches that preceeded it) that was vey like some of the concepts Foss had made for Dune.
