Jake had rehearsed telling the Na'vi that the sky people were coming. He however was not prepared to tell them that they were going to attack in a matter of minutes!
He speaks perfect Na'vi during his "emergency message" back at the hometree until he must tell them "they're going to be here soon." He had to rely on Neytiri to do that for him. He had only prepped for a relocation address that was supposed to be formal (of course we all know he got lost in the woods over three months chasing tail and becoming one of The People so he completely forgot to warn them). He did warn them...just last minute...and also requiring a little translation help from Neytiri. ![]() This was a good realization that I had because it strengthened the backstory all the more for me. There are so many things we can discover more about the film if we just sit and wonder about it.

Every last detail in the film was planned for maximum emotional effect. Not all of it made perfect sense.

What Grif said.
That said, I think he mostly forgot about that though.
