I'm so glad this thread is here because I know someone who is a truly good human being. If you can't be bothered to read all this then just skip this post.

I regularly go to an asian resturant, Ta Fong noodle house, for lunch (went today ) and the owner is a man who fought in the vietnam war. He was fighting for the south and he saw the horrors of war. He wanted to start a new life so him, along with a number of people, made a long trip by boat to Australia which took months. Some of his friends died becuase of lack of food and water but he surviived and when he reached Australia he got a job working in a resturant. After years of working hard he managed to open his own resturant and ever since he's been serving great food with great customer service. On many occasions he has kept a % of the profits and donated them to good causes:

-last year victoria was struck by bushfires and so he managed to raise a few thousand $ and donated it
-there was an earthquake in china and again, he donated a % of profits to aid the people

if you look on the walls, you can see many letters posted which are from customers who praise the great food, great customer service and the friendlyness of the people who work there. There's also an article posted which quotes this man who said that Australia has done so much for him and his family, providing healthcare, education for his kids and so on, so it was only fair that he repaid the country. to me, this man is a great role model.

BTW his brother has a resturant of the same name in LA so if you live there, maybe you can try it

You tell him. I think morbid is putting it lightly; what HNM said was downright sinister. But it will not bring the thread down.

I like this, thank you. We should focus more on people like this, because people tend to go where they put their focus, just as your car goes in the direction you're looking. So I say put our focus on the positive things and people that we want to have more of. Let's ask, how do we create more people like that? How do we become like that? This is something I ask myself every night before I go to sleep.

Recently deceased gentleman I once met: Jaime Escalante. See "Stand and Deliver." Terrific role model for an earlier generation.

I can only find a Ta Fong restaurant supply company in Los Angeles, not a restaurant itself.

A lot more where those came from. Not necessarily all about individual people doing good things, but things happening in the world that are a positive benefit to humanity.

And HNM... Advent and Elyannia are right. Everyone deserves to live. There aren't some people who share the benefit of life moreso to the point that the other's life isn't as meaningful. Everyone's life is valuable, even criminals; ever seen "The Dark Knight"? No one should decide who deserves to live and who doesn't... unless it's a court of law situation, where a person is declared guilty enough to be executed...
