Thanks for mentioning it. Definitely put on the (ever growing) book list.
This really is a sad irony of western civilization. Western civilization is supposed to be the pinnacle of living, at least according to Manifest Destinyists. It is supposed to make us happier, make us healthier, help us live more fulfilling lives. Though in reality, all this stress, work, and lonliness is doing is slowly killing us. Sempu, I highly recommend you watch a movie called "What a Way to Go: Life at the End of Empire." It talks about how the trials of modern humanity run deeper than we think, that we face an existential crisis just as much as an environmental crisis. Aurora told me about it, and I loved it.

God damn it, an entire generation pumping gas, waiting tables; slaves with white collars. Advertising has us chasing cars and clothes, working jobs we hate so we can buy **** we don't need. We're the middle children of history, man. No purpose or place. We have no Great War. No Great Depression. Our Great War's a spiritual war... our Great Depression is our lives. We've all been raised on television to believe that one day we'd all be millionaires, and movie gods, and rock stars. But we won't. And we're slowly learning that fact. And we're very, very pissed off." - Tyler Durden Last edited by Tsyal Makto; 10-11-2010 at 03:15 AM. |
