Quite simply, human-centered governance systems are not working and we need new economic, development and environmental policies.

An awesome article I just read on Alternet. Everything it says is absolutely true. We will face our destruction if we continue with our headstrong, profit-motivated means of expansion/development. How is it acceptable that the very elements of life have become commodities to be traded on the market? Clean water? Clean air? Why should our very capability to remain alive be something that is traded on, and dictated by the market? Living creatures, in all forms, shouldn't have to be economically viable to be allowed to exist. This reeks of THX 1138. And some of these new BS markets that are trying to emerge. Carbon trading? Pollution trading? How about instead of using our energy to simply trying to capitalize on our means of destruction, we use our energy to actually remedy them for good.

"Man, I see in fight club the strongest and smartest men who've ever lived. I see all this potential, and I see squandering. God damn it, an entire generation pumping gas, waiting tables; slaves with white collars. Advertising has us chasing cars and clothes, working jobs we hate so we can buy **** we don't need. We're the middle children of history, man. No purpose or place. We have no Great War. No Great Depression. Our Great War's a spiritual war... our Great Depression is our lives. We've all been raised on television to believe that one day we'd all be millionaires, and movie gods, and rock stars. But we won't. And we're slowly learning that fact. And we're very, very pissed off." - Tyler Durden
