Humanity does it again.

Hopefully the WWF will be able to succeed in their campaign, and these beautiful creatures will be able to roam the Earth for millenia to come.

Tigers are truly beautiful and powerful creatures. It is sad that even though they are so strong that they can't save themselves from this. Humans make a fight for survival impossible in many habitats and for so many species.

So... poachers and illegal sales represent humanity, now? For all we know, some of the corrupt natives themselves might be one of the big causes.

That sucks. I'd hate to see any animal go extinct. Especially one as widely known as tigers.

Ah.

Corporations, poachers, collectors, and over ambitious natives are livin' the dream!

Quite frankly, I remember seeing something on TV six or so years ago as a child and they said tigers would be extinct in ten years, so I'm skeptical.

WWF said that in the last century, illegal hunting, a shrinking habitat and the trade of tiger parts used in oriental medicine had sent the number of the big cats worldwide plunging 97 percent to around just 3,200 tigers today.

So, can we stop with the "holistic" and "ancient healing" and use synthetic treatments now? Because being hip is now killing tigers off.

Idk if I can take this article seriously since it doesn't really specify what kind of tiger... it just kind of generalizes but if it's talking about the most known kind of tiger that is kept in zoos here in the US then I doubt they will be going extinct any time soon.

That doesn't mean we still shouldn't do something to boost their numbers closer to what they once were. Debating who is at fault wasn't the point of the article, and won't change the fact that they are only 3% of what they used to be, and that's vital biodiversity missing from the ecosystem. And specifically, we need more wild tigers, because one day if the only one's remaining are domesticated - locked in zoo cages or doing show tricks - when it comes to the natural world, they might as well be dead, even if they aren't quantifiably extinct.
