I'm a little late to this discussion, but I've felt this way too. I've already done a bit of volunteer service in my life, but now I want to do more and I've realized and there's so many opportunities for me to do it. Not just around my hometown, but all over the world.
I'm not sure if I have anything new to add to the list of ways of using the Avatar experience to improve oneself and the world, but I will say that ToS and other forums have been a huge part of the experience for me. Through all the people on these boards, I have learned a ton about how to move on in the post-Avatar life, and I do not think that I would have the goals I have now if it hadn't been for my reading what Avatar fans around the world have written here. Many people here have different, sometimes conflicting viewpoints. Yet I feel that I can learn something from all of them. And when I think about my thought processes since last December, I realize that much of the change that has happened was due to all the things I read on AF and ToS, and I know I'm all the better for it.
So how do I use the Avatar experience to improve myself? I just listen to you guys, and go from there.
