If Quaritch returns....
I know there has been discussions about how Grace and Quaritch might come back, but I just had a thought about how Quaritch might be able to pull it off. I believe that if we see him in the next release... it would be in the form of a "son" or a younger brother. This to me would be a very realistic and logical way to bring back the bad guy.
Miles took 2 in the chest at the end of the film. As described, those arrows (more like whaling harpoons shot from a bow) were tipped with a neurotoxin that could stop your heart in about 30 seconds. So the original bad guy is long gone. But I believe we will see him again... especially if his son or younger brother finds out how "dad" or his older brother died at the hands of the Na'vi. The anger and vengence would be dripping off of this guy like hot grease, and he would get a chance to avenge the death as RDA would definately want to have another go with Pandora. Unobtainium is too lucrative a prospect to simply just forget about. Anyone else want to share their thoughts here...? Tey'Kan

Sorry, but family just seems like the most obvious, cliche thing, other than possibly cloning (which is based on a fundamental misunderstanding of the process). I REALLY hope there is a new character, an ORIGINAL one.

Cameron made sure that you hate Quaritch enough to want him dead by the end, and the way he dies and the timing of his death (especially) is so incredibly satisfying. I'm so glad Cameron gave our heroes a very hard time to kill him, because you respect his toughness. He's just too badass to be killed any other way than getting two spear-sized arrows in his chest when he's about to kill our fierce Jake.
That said, yep. HNM is right. Quaritch is dead; he can't come back. He won't come back. Even if it were possible in the Avatar universe to return, no one would care to bring him back because he ultimately failed his mission on Pandora. There's no reason to bring back a failure like Quaritch. I do agree, unobtanium is a very valuable item to earth, and the RDA won't give it up so easily. But I'm 99.9% sure Quaritch will not be involved in the earth's second attempt to regain power. Bringing his family into the argument doesn't help much; that'd be like bringing Grace's family to Pandora because she died (bodily, at least). Last edited by Woodsprite; 10-30-2010 at 05:28 PM.

You know what'd be really weird is if Avatar 2 ended like PotC 2 did with Barbossa being alive and suddenly allies with the crew, only Avatar 2 would end with Quaritch being alive, and on Jake and Neytiri's side...
...or better yet, as you mention Trudy, maybe it could be Trudy at the end, revealing she had somehow survived... probably wouldn't happen with Trudy either, seeing as how her samson exploded into three pieces with her inside. Poor Trudy.

OK, just for arguments sake, Quaritch is to return. How would it happen.
Family Member This is a bit naff really and a cliche. So Quaritch suddenly has a twin brother or long lost cousin or a son who wants to take over the Quaritch mantel. The problem is that Avatar effectively uses this method already by making Jake a twin. Quaritch survived So Quaritch didn't actually die. Despite having two poisened arrows in him and limited air supply, he miraculously drags himself to safety or is rescued and then hidden. That would be difficult to accept. Quaritch is revived/cloned Probably the most popular method in fantasy and sci-fi to revive someone. This really would be unoriginal as it has been done so many times (e.g. Dune). Time Travel/multi-dimension As per Tasha Yarr in Star Trek 9although this is combined with thefamily member). A change in the Timeline means that Quaritch didn't die. I really hope there is no time travel or multi-dimensions in Avatar. That would spoil it for me. I reallty didn't like the time travel aspects of B5 and it would be even worse in Avatar. Dreams or visions Quaritch appears to Jake or someone else in dreams or visions, perhaps as little red devil sitting on his left shoulder while Grace is on the right. I can accept Grace coming back in a vision, but it would be too much to have Quaritch as well. Quaritch comes back in another form So someone builds a terminator in the shape of Quaritch. Wait a minute, hasn't JC done a movie about that before? Flashback Quaritch could appear in a flashback to explain some back story. This may be OK if it is done well and not over done. However, the problem with this is that he would not then be the main villain. Thus is is debateable whether it is worth doing this at all. also it reminds me too much of Lost which I didn't like at all. Stephen Lang returns, but not as Quaritch Stephen Lang is given a completely different roll which is completely unrecognisable from Quaritch. Obviously this would be fine as long as the roll is so different that we don't really notice that is is stephen Lang or Quaritch. in conclusion, I think the only way to bring Quaritch back without issue, would be to make a prequel.

Yeah, he's dead. I want a new villian, and one that is less "ranger rick" (as Grace would put it) and more sophisticated and calculating.

The more I read into this... the more I agree with you in the fact that we WON'T see Quaritch back. If RDA clones him, I will be surprised. Some other villan will appear, he or she will be driven by a lucrative offer from RDA, which is 'seething' at the thought of another go on Pandora. The villan will have to be a real bad guy, and as Raiden put it..."More sophisticated and calculating". Someone who's strategy will literally scare the living daylights out of Jake and the Na'vi, as well as everyone in the audience.
But not to worry... we'll make short work of that villan too... Tey'Kan

Of course, the new villain may not be human.
