![]() That said, I really don't think Jake and Neytiri has been done before. There has never been any character like her.

Well, they share the same character role. Tbh, I havent watched that movie in more than a decade... So I'd be a little rusty on actual characters...

Advent, stop trolling. That has been done MANY times over and there is an entire list of reasons that disprove it.

You asked, he answered. It's comparable.

I don't think that should count as trolling, no more than pointing out the trope of guy falls in love with native woman and becomes one of them is a trope, or any of the NUMBER of tropes that Cameron has used. It's an opinion, not an attempt to troll. And in the end, we are all free to disagree. And it IS my opinion that Jake/Neytiri is a stock coupling, even though the details in the characters are different. *shrugs* In all honesty, I would have preferred more originality and twists, but if Cameron keeps them together for the whole series, THAT will be different, too.

It's fine. Pocahontas came out in theaters the year after Cameron wrote Avatar. We're cool.

As a supporter of strong female characters (those who have flaws that they can overcome), I would have loved it.

Honestly this kind of bothers me because it puts women on another (more savage) level, but that's another argument entirely. I as a woman find men to be just as weird and "mysterious" as I think guys think women are, although in different ways, of course. And men are generally also the more "savage"/agressive sex (widespread interest in sports and similar combat metaphors, more aggressive behaviors as children, larger physical mass/capabilities developed for fighting, much more likely to commit violent crimes, etc), but w/e. An aggressive/savage female is also much less threatening and therefore more appealing than an aggressive/savage male, which is another reason why it's probably more popular. Then again there is the "bad boy" trope... lol. Anyway... Edit: Pocahontas' hair looks weird in that picture (the "folds"/waves), it looks like cloth or something O.O
