OMG! That is so double layered it's hilarious! When you are a child, and especially at that era, what was said, was what you meant. Things were a lot more innocent then, even Sesame Street had some double layered segments that always kept me watching when my kids were watching it.
Leave it to the Brits though with their much more open and raunchy sense of humor to put that in a kids show very 'innocently'.
Ya kind of wonder how many takes it took for them to get through it without laughing! That had to be written like that on purpose, it was much too conveniently left hanging. That would never get on the air these days holy cow!
The closest I could think on Sesame Street was when the Honkers first arrived, the only black guy on the show ended up naming them..he named other muppets with an 'ie' on the end... so then he go to the honk.... ers. All the parents knew what he was leading to!! One of those moments.

That is crazy. Although I don't think it's that kids are oblivious, I think they wouldn't understand what was being said even if they came out and said it all straight forward.

I've had that "kid's" show favorited for quite a while. It was done by the cast to get a good laugh out of themselves; was never aired.

Still some good stuff, though.

A lot of children's stuff has 'adult' jokes in... it's an art making them subtle enough that children won't get them
