Default Will the character focus change in the sequel

In Avatar, the story is effectively told from Jake's point of view. He is the main character and everything revolves around him and his perception of the world.

It is very rare that we see some one else's point of view. Even with Neytiri, we rarely see her point of view. And even then, Jake is involved in some way in the scene.

But do you think the focus will now change. Will the focus now be shared between different characters or perhaps (lets hoping not) there will be new characters completely.

For example, in Star wars opisode IV, Luke is clearly the main character and nearly everything is told from his point of view, although there are a few scenes where Vader and sometime's Leia's point of view in shown.

But in V and VI, the focus changes. Luke is not longer the main character as the point of view on Han Solo and Leia is shown a lot.

In Starshiptroopers the change is even more dramatic. The main charcter for the first movie, Rico, does not appear at all in 2nd, and appears only briefly in the 3rd (although I refer to forget 2 and especially 3).

So how do you think it will develop. And how do you want it to develop.

Would you like more of the same, or do you want to see other characters taking a bigger role or even becoming the main character? Or would you like to see something completely new.

I would enjoy scenes with just Neytiri aka hey pov Mostly since we never ever got any of that in Avatar :/ Norm could maybe take a bigger role. Not saying a BIG role, just bigger. He hardly did anything in Avatar that made a clear mark of who he was, he was mostly "just that kind nerd guy" IMO. Grace will also be in there, but her role will fit well as the one in Avatar, sort of a social guider for Jake. Anyone left? Well... Moat... She could...

You reminded me of Star Wars. This brings up a good point; imagine if Jake and Neytiri's son became a main character in the sequel. T'would be quite interesting. But that won't happen.

I have a big feeling that we will see Selfridge play a very important role over the course of all three films. He seemed to oscillate between both sides quite often and perhaps we will see his point of view several times. I bet that he will be the one to make the big decision that determines Pandora's fate.

Eugh... if it must happen, spare it for the 2nd sequel IMO As we all know (from the script) Neytiri was pregnant in the end of Avatar... so th-... wait!
If Avatar 2 supposed to play out years after the Avatar incident... well, that's more than 9 months (but JC can ofc always do some twist n turns in the storyline) Hmm, I wonder how this will come out

Did not know about Neytiri being pregnant... first time isn't always successful... but in any case...
I just got a flash of plot possibilities.
Jake and Neytiri's son (could have been a girl but ... )is about the same age as Jake was when he arrived, he is being groomed for being clan leader of course, and Jake has tried to tell him of Earth. Humans are still there, and if it's far enough in the future... Norm is going to be in his 50's... possibly head scientist.
(I'm thinking wayyyy ahead, maybe twenty years)
The humans return in force and it is Jake and Neytiri's son that gets involved with a human female avatar... wouldn't that be a kick in the head?
Weird.

Weird.
Especially if they found out they were brother and sister. Wait hasn't that been done before?

Interesting. It sounds like some people think that there may be totally new characters.

Personally, I think they will try to have Neytiri as a main character if possible, and preferrably Jake too.

But if the actors are unavailabe or are too expensive, perhaps there may be new characters.

New characters: No.

Partly from Neytiri's: Possibly, I'd like that

Personally, I would like to see Neytiri as a major character in her own right.

I would dearly like to see her develop her already apparent leadership qualities. I want to see her transform from her supporting role as a brave but emotionally fragile Huntress into the Warrior Priestess of the united Na'vi she is obviously destined to be.

However, I think that would probably sadly be the end of Mo'at and Jake may have to be unavailable to the Na'vi as a leader (although that doesn't mean he can't play an active and important part in the movie.)

Next time I want to see Neytiri giving the war speech.

Very interesting!

...Just thought about it; maybe a completely new character will be introduced. It seems to me like the best tales of awe and wonder happen for the point of view for someone who is experiencing everything for the first time. That's the magic of filmmaking: having you discover something you've already discovered, yet feeling like you haven't seen anything like it before.

...Of course, add new things like the oceans, moons, and what not, but seeing Avatar 2 through the eyes of another person in awe for the first time sounds really, very exciting. To me, at least.

To be honest, I am sure there will be a new character of some sort. At the very least they need a new big bad antagonist (assuing it is not Quaritch or some other derivation).

Woodsprite, I doubt it. JC knows what people want

As for Neytiri replacing Mo'at... maybe in the 3rd film, but not straight away.

Well, i would prefer to see the focus on Jake and Neytiri again, at least for the second movie

And since there is no introduction like in the first movie from the beginning right now both can have an equal big part in the story
