I truly don't understand why anyone would laugh at that scene? It is scary because it shows a lack of empathy. Granted, we are talking about a fictional character and a fictional situation however, that scene was very realistic. It depicts what happens in a natural or man made disaster and the kinds of grief that are exhibited. That is also why it touches all of us. For someone to laugh at that shows a callousness and a lack of respect I think. It is sad .

The same happened to me one time. Luckily for the person who laughed, I had no clue where they were sitting...

that is sad. I just don't understand laughing at someone else's pain, even if they are fictional characters in a movie.

I agree, I dont understand it at all. Humans are a strange being. We watch fights and such for entertainment (I must admit I am guilty of this lol) and laugh at others misfortunes a long as animal cruelty. One thing I dont like watching is these new tv shows about the loggers and shows them just tearing down trees. It is sad knowing this is going on and people enjoy and are entertained by it.

Ugh that makes me sad... Skypeople. And I also heard from someone else in the glory days of the AF that someone laughed when she saw Jakes skinny human legs.

The peak of the whole scene for me is when they start the song "Shutting down Grace's Lab" and Mo'at is just beside herself with denial, shock, and grief. It's a good thing i was already transrational before I saw Avatar, or I would have started blowing schit up. Literally, as in Tyler Durden style.

Transrational = balanced between right and left-brain, seeing the purpose and necessity of all occurrences. Like a Buddha but without the disciples

this scene really hit me so hard... so emotional, the first two times made me cry, now I try not to do it but it´s impossible the song, the 0maticaya running and crying
their big and awesome home fell down, was really really sad this part, poor Na´vi now they don´t have their big tree... that upset me

That's he thing to the Na'vi it wasn't just a tree... It was their home. A place where most of them lived their whole lives, had some of the greatest memories, had such a connection with it

So am I, that scene really tears me apart. About as much as Eytukan's death.
You actually feel like you are there and to have someone living one moment and then dead the next is so terrible I feel numb all over.
Likewise when the Valkyrie shuttles dynamite loads squish that guy when the engine blows, my heart skipped a beat. I had no joy watching that, despite the RDA being the bad guys.
Unfortunately someone laughed at that when I was in the cinema, a death like that is nothing to be laughed at or congratulated.

I agree that it is a great scene, but somehow I feel that it could have been so much more emotional and engaging. I can't explain but if you are patient I will post about it soon. It could partly be beause I laugh at some inappropriate bits like when Quaritch says, 'Switch incendiaries' and points to the Weapons Officer. The pilot next to Quaritch gets a pitful of Quaritch's sweaty armpit. Eww
I will admit that I did cry at the scene though I think that I could have been positively in tears if it was done how I think it should have been done

I feel kinda evil for thinking "yeah that's what you get you mercenary thug" when the pallet of explosives squished that guy in the valkyrie.

"I was just following orders" is no excuse... ever.

O well.. guess i'm evil!

I thought that too. I don't consider it evil though.

As for 'just following orders', if I was there, I'd have gone, but then shot down/sabotaged/crashed into the shuttle (or crashed it if I was flying it).

That's very unlikely, if you had never seen a forest, and was brainwashed by RDA. Remember how Jake was before Neytiri taught him.. ?
