What's the real "Toruk Alike" with it? If it's the wings being red... then that's all I can see :/ Its wings are even separated from its front legs. Toruk has only wings

Otherwise... cool lizard

Edit: Oh wait! Now when I look more closely at the pattern on the wings... Wow...

Very cool looking. Its weird how the wings look very alien compared to the body.

Seen this before, but it's still awesome to see again. You can really see where JC got his inspiration for Toruk.

Would love to see a bunch of those fly off en masse like in the fanlizard scene.

Ah, yes, the Draco genus.

Indeed, Draco Volans is the chief contributor to the Toruk's coloration.

The entire genus, belonging to the family Agamidae (the same family as bearded dragons), possesses extended, membrane-covered ribs that allow them to glide between trees.

There are also a group of snakes that have adapted this ability, and a few frogs that can glide with the webbing between their toes.

I've seen pictures of these lizards before, and I figured that the Toruk was made after either a Monarch butterfly or a member of the Draco genus, with the beak/jaw design being made after Jurassic/Cretaceous era Pterosaurs.

Yeah...

Alas, they are solitary animals, and can only glide; not gain altitude. You would also have to be up pretty high to see one; they primarily use it as an escape mechanism against snakes and other arboreal predators, and when they aren't, they blend into the tree bark almost perfectly, flattening themselves against it to reduce their body outline/silhouette.

It probably wouldn't be too difficult to house one; a large, tall arboreal vivarium with tree bark, large logs/sticks, live plants and a water dish with coconut bark/potting soil substrate might work.

The only thing is the gliding.

I know people who keep frilled lizards (another member of Agamidae) almost never see them flare the frill, since it's a defense mechanism, and (ideally :/) they should never be so frightened or stressed as to feel the need to evert the frill; if they are, they are likely not doing well.

So if the "flying" is a defense mechanism, you shouldn't be seeing them do it. Besides, if you wanted them to, you would have to turn almost a whole room into their enclosure to give them enough space to do it.

So, they are very very rare in the herp market (if available at all), but someone dedicated enough might find one.

After the enclosure is set up, feeding and watering should be about the same as any other Agamid lizard; most of them prefer crickets, so crickets dusted with multivitamins/gut loaded with supplements should be offered once a day/every other day. I'm not sure if they live in a humid place or not, but keeping clean water and reasearching the humidity requirements is a good idea.

What's interesting is the grey vein looking markings are markings.. you can see the ribs as the more curved lines like you would on a dragonwing.
Very cool markings, there are some butterflies that have the same colors in their wings, but then...they're insects and not nearly as cool!
hehehe.

What's really cool about that little critter, aside from his akin to "Leonopteryx" is the fact that it does appear that the "wings" are seperate from his arms and legs. A very beautiful little animal.
