DreamWorks Shares Drop After 'Dragon' Opening.

Shares of DreamWorks Animation SKG Inc. dropped Monday after disappointing ticket sales for the movie "How to Train Your Dragon" during its opening weekend.

Interesting, considering they pulled Avatar off all 3D screens here to show Dragon, Alice, and the upcoming Clash of the Titans.

I wouldn't necessarily say its a failure. It has had good reviews. Perhaps it is because they decided to raise ticket prices by 20% so that is hurting sales. I saw the movie and it was enjoyable.

I wouldn't call How To Train Your Dragon a failure. It's reviews and grading on BOM is actually better than that of Alice in Wonderland, which really is saying something, though something definitely is wrong - How To Train Your Dragon had the second biggest opening for any 3D movie of last/this year, but it isn't drawing in the crowd.

3D movies have had an almost unattainable bar set for them by Avatar. Every 3D release is going to be a disappointment for some time to come. Actually, for probably 3 or 4 years, until whenever the sequel comes out How to Train Your Dragon, relative to it's cost to make, will turn quite a profit, I am sure.

Reminds me completely of "Stardust" when it came out. Box office wasn't that great, it wasn't payed any attention to until it came on DVD. Now it's very highly rated (I loved it too).

Alice... The thing with HtTYD is: I'm not really interested in another cartoon-CGI film unless it's from Pixar.

Everyone constantly raved about "Kung-Fu Panda" and my sister kept saying, "You're gonna love it! YOU'RE GONNA LOVE IT!!" even though she hadn't seen it herself. She trusted the ratings, the reviews, the critics, and the box office. I didn't. I held out until my sister finally forced me down on the couch to watch it when it came out on DVD, and we both watched it. My sister thought it was good (notice "good", not "great"), and I thought it was a complete waste of time. I watched with an open mind, too. I still thought it was trash.

That's why I didn't really look into the ratings or previews for Alice, because I knew if I did I might expect something. Even Kung-Fu Panda, me being fully aware of its HIGH rating among critics and viewers didn't make me think, "All right! This is gonna be great!" So....

to those who aren't seeing Alice based on its critical reviews (or even public reviews), you still might like the film. I love bunches of films that critics and viewers alike hate equally, so whenever I see a "bad" review of something I'm thinking about seeing, I don't usually trust it, because I've come to love other "bad" movies in the past...

I'm ashamed that I actually enjoyed "Twilight" and "New Moon". They were both quite corny and terrible, but I still liked 'em... Don't judge me.
