Default Jon Landau Talks Avatar 2 Status, Deleted Scenes And Blu-Ray.

http://www.collider.com/2010/03/21/a...cenes-3d-more/

On the final day of ShoWest, Avatar producer Jon Landau talked to the press about the upcoming Avatar DVD/Blu-ray, what’s the status of Avatar 2, the re-release of Avatar in theaters, deleted scenes being put back into the movie, and 3D.

The main points were:

- They are focusing on the special edition Blu-ray as the place for deleted scenes to go back into the movie. They don’t want 5 or 10 second clips. They want to find entire scenes to put back in.
- Said they are only going to make Avatar 2 if Cameron writes a script they are happy with.
- Nothing is certain about an Avatar re-release in theaters.
- Not sure what they are doing next.

Jon Landau

- The status of rereleasing Avatar in theaters and what would they want to put back into the movie - what deleted scenes
- They are focusing on the deleted scenes for the home video market
- They want to find complete scenes to add back in not just 10 second scenes
- Does he envision an extended cut for the special edition DVD/Blu-ray
- 2:28 - Is there enough time to do The Dive before Avatar 2 - they are only going to make an Avatar 2 if they are happy with the script.
- 3:40 - 3D talk

That was interesting to watch, if only to see how careful Landau is with what he says. He makes sure to say nothing that is a promise, which is a smart way to deal with something like Avatar where there are so many obsessed people watching and interpreting every word.

Everyone knows there's going to be an Avatar sequel. Nothing has ever been more certain in movies. He just doesn't want to say anything that commits them to something specific. Likewise, it's a foregone conclusion it's being re-released, especially in IMAX, whether there is added content or not. It was removed from theaters way before it should have been due to contractual reasons.

However, if Landau confirms anything, no matter how trivial, and then it doesn't happen, people will freak out (myself included ) He is just saying things without really saying anything.

Yeah, he was being very coy about the Avatar re-release which is strange because he mentions completing whole deleted scenes for the special edition blu-ray. You wouldn't spend the money to do that unless you had intentions to release it again in the theatres. I think so too it's a foregone conclusion.

Well, that's good about the deleted scenes. As for Avatar 2, they'd have to be stupid not to now...

I second & third wanting the DVD---right now, but it does my soul good to hear, however carefully worded, that whole scenes will be "value-added"---I can't imagine doing mutiple thound-dollar renders just to add to the DVD release...I'm betting we will have it "sprang" on us towards the end of summer--here's for that hope & maybe an announcement that Avatar2 will be film-start around the first of next year

Very interesting. He didn't say very much. I guess there isn't a whole lot to say now. What is even more interesting is the interview with Cameron that is posted at the side. Here is the link to it: http://www.collider.com/2010/03/24/j...-and-avatar-2/ .

I guess we will try to hang on for another 3-4 years by the sound of it . I am a bit disappointed that they won't be able to render all of the deleted scenes. I guess that was going to take up to much time.

Its Cameron writing the Avatar 2 script... Cameron. Yea I think they'll be happy with it, but what gives me comfort is that he says "if they're happy with it" because he's not certain about a lot of things and wants to be trusted, so when he says that, it gives me confort that Avatar 2 will be the best it could be. Thanks for the link! I'll have to watch it later because its blocked at my work
