However, they're all converted automatically to WMA files instead of MP3s... And when I convert them back to MP3 format, the bit rate is reduced yet again to 128 kb, so MAC users and Ipod users are... in the lightest sense of the word: screwed. However, CDs (though no one here probably uses them as much) are a plus.

Well thats unfortunate. I have an iMac and a couple iPods & an iPhone so I guess I'm screwed.
I use CD's for everything, especially soundtracks because I don't want soundtracks compressed so I use a lossless file type. I don't download songs and if I do, it is single songs from the iTunes store when I don't want an entire album.
Is there another place on the interwebs that I can find it?
