Default Avatar Communities Film Project Entered into Competition

Kaltxi folks,

You may remember that last year, along with our brothers and sisters on AF, we made a film together inspired by Avatar about the need to look after our planet. Well I just thought you might like to know that I have entered it into the British International Amateur Film Festival. This is run by the Institute of Amateur Cinematographers.

This competition gets held in early April, although judging takes place in late January. The minimum we will get will be a set of judge's comments which will be posted out in March just before the film festival.

As soon as I get the judge's comments I will forward them round to those who made the film and also here. Although the competition has entries from around the world, I am not sure they have ever had one entry that has been collectively made by people from around the world before. So it will be interesting to see their response.

For those who are new here or haven't seen the film we made together, you can view it below:

I have also entered the 'making of' film that we also made into the competition.

If you would like to see the film with subtitles (in Czech, English, Finnish, German or Portuguese) or the 'making of' or 'the making of the making of' (outtakes) then you can view them all at the Avatar Communities Film Project channel on You Tube:

YouTube - OurOnlyHome's Channel

Finally, just a reminder that there is also a free App for the iPhone and iPod touch that incorporates a quiz as well as the film. This can be found on the iTunes App store by typing in 'ouronlyhome' (no spaces between the words).

Here's hoping that we do well!!

Kiyevame,

Alan

Oh thank god! The message is FINALLY getting out! HORRAY! After spending all my life waiting! It's so relieving to finally see it coming... Keep up the good work guys! I'm going to post this on facebook and spread it around! ^^ *claps loudly*

Oh by the way, is there a way to have this video transcribed or have subtitles in it? Because I can't quite hear what they're saying or understand it, even though there's pictures and people talking in it. If anyone wants me to help volunteer with that, I'd be greatly appreciated!

UPDATE: Never mind! Lmao OMG!!! I just noticed the one with subtitles!!! Thank you so much! You have no idea how much this means to me!! *hugs* This helps me out tremendously since I'm deaf/hearing impaired! I will definitely take the time to read this and watch it! ^^

Irayo for your words of support, folks. I'm interested to see what they make of our film, too. I went to the competition last year and the films that won tended to be drama/story films. But we all sure did something special last year...

Yes, well I didn't have English subtitles to begin with. That was until another chappy, 'muddeprived' (can't remember if he was on here or AF) ,mentioned he had impaired hearing. So I soon sorted that out with a set of subtitles. Enjoy my friend.

Kiyevame,

Alan

Irayo tsmukan.

Glad you got the package ok. Amazing how long it's taken to get to you. Still I guess it was the Christmas back log.

I've been looking on the IAC (Institute of Amateur Cinematographers) website and there apears to be a few more competitions we can enter it into. If you find any competitions over your way, feel free to put it in. If nother else our film will get some more exposure to spread out little message.

Kiyevame,

Alan

Hmm.. Such a shame that most films these days that gain awards are full of drama and violence. Not good at all... Lol yeah, I hope you definitely win. This is a great piece for sure. I aim to spread it around! Lol

Interesting.. I think I may have heard of that name before but I'm not sure.. I'll search for him while I'm at it. It sounds like a wonderful idea though, since there might be some hearing impaired people who have an interest in Avatar as well as we do... So it wouldn't be a bad idea IMO... Not to mention the environmentalist messages you're giving would be a great tip to them (and humanity) towards the future, ya know?

Again, thanks to you both. I greatly appreciate all of your support here and none of this could have happened without Avatar and its impact on us. Hopefully these messages will continue to thrive and keep going in order for us to survive as a human race... Irayo!

Funny you should mention that as the one that won last year did have quite a bit of violence and more swearing that you can shake a stick at. It was a shame really as the was a film from Poland which I think should have won called Pomiedzy (Between). Is was about an old lady who moves into a drab block of flats where people keep to themselves. So she takes her door off its hinges and grandually they form a community. The last shot is of everyone talking in the corridor as she leaves the flats. It was really well done. But hey-ho, film making is and art so it's all down to opinion!

Why thank you my friend. We're most gratefull. I checked the You Tube channel and there have been about 1600 views, which is not a lot in You Tube terms. However, iTunes has had about 4000 downloads/views and I think the app for the iPhone has been downloaded about 2500 times.

Well I'm glad I had my eyes opened by muddeprived to those with impaired hearing. It was easy enough for me to do to copy the script into the subtitles and it opens our forum film up to a group of new people.

You are so right. Avatar was the seed that was planeted in us and look what was able to grow out of it! I hope our little film is able to make a contribution to opening people's minds to look after our planet.

Once again Irayo for your support. I can't wait to see what the judges say. I'm going to see what other film competition there are for us to enter and spread our message around a bit more.
