Debating is pointless.

Debates do make me change my opinion, however if I feel that a point of mine is being missed, negated, or thrown away then I just tend to do the same thing and it turns into rather an argument of two zombies going "Uhhh" at each-other.

Exactly why I consider it pointless. Nobody truly cares about the other side's point, they just want to state theirs. Sure, it's possible to find a well considered point, but relatively rare.

I've read in group discussions of how certain groups of people claim that they're being unfairly treated due to their beliefs. And I'm truly disappointed to hear that.

Sad but true. It's always the people who try to claim special privileges then get annoyed when they are treated the same as everyone else...
