Anyone who doesn't want a sequel?

The opinion is very clear.
If a sequel comes out, of course I will watch it. I hope it will be good.
I think it could start like the first movie, flying over the rainforest. Narration: ... I had those dreams of flying, being free - now I can fly, now I am free. Then closeup of Jake's eyes opening (at the point where Avatar ended).

I was dead against the idea when i first heard there would be sequels, since i thought it would make Avatar a little less 'special'. But now i seriously cannot wait.. i need more avatarness! I'm sure JC will make it amazing

Each movie is a closed story, so the first movie won't be damaged too badly if the sequel's a disaster, which it won't be.

I personally am still conflicted.

Sure, i'd absolutely LOVE to see more Avatar, but for me, I would prefer it to be more of an expansion of Na'vi culture and general life, rather than (What i'm slightly dreading to an extent) a switch to another setting such as another moon or the sea ()

I think perhaps it would be interesting to see how other clans live, how the clans all interact with each other and generally see more of the diversity of population as well as fauna and flora Pandora has to offer.

I honestly don't think it's within Cameron's physical ability to make the sequel a disaster.

Cameron as a director is like Roy Hobbs from "The Natural" when he said, "I only know how to hit home runs."

I really want a sequel, to see more of Pandora, more of the Na'vi Culture...see new plots and trials. What will Neytiri and Jake will have to overcome next? (lil' na'vi babies?? :3)

However, I'm just worried that it will be dissapointing. It probably won't be, I know that, but the nagging anxious part of me keeps screaming 'don't ruin eeet!'

I'm gonna give a cautious "yes." However, I'm going to have to religiously avoid all spoilers in the lead up to its release, even if it means walking around with my hands over my ears going "la, la, la, not listening." And then I'm going to have to get a friend to watch it first and reassure me that it's good without giving away any details.

lol thats exactly what i did before watching the SE. It's alot better, in my opinion, to go into a film not having any idea what to expect. Plus, it'll bring back that 'awe' feeling we had with the first film.

You know, on a completely unrelated note, I felt the same way about "Voyage of the Dawn Treader". (Keep following me on this; I eventually make a point. ) At first I was incredibly excited. I mean REALLY excited. Then time passed and I forgot about how excited I was. Then, about a year later, I saw the trailer. Then I was excited again. ...Then I saw the official poster, and was immediately disheartened. The poster looked absolutely AWFUL! Then I watched the trailer again and thought it looked kind of corny.

Then I thought about how the production team was completely changed. The director, producers, composer, location setting, and studio had all changed. Totally different team. Then I was worried. What would I think? I finally went to see the film with my sister; half-excited, half-nervous. Would it be what I had hoped?

...No. It wasn't as bad as I thought it might be, but it wasn't nearly as great as I had imagined, either. Some key elements were included, which I was very happy about. But everything else just sucked, imo.

The film seemed WAY too fast-paced. Nothing that was done was satisfying. The introduction to earth was far too short, and didn't let the viewer take in enough. The jump from earth to Narnia was too quick. Then there were other things like the first sword fight looking like it was filmed with a television show camera. Caspian's accent has apparently changed from Telmarine (Spaniard-like) to full-throttle proper British over the course of just three years. Hard to not notice.

The acting was terrible. It was like the actors were told to deliver the lines in the most contrived way possible. Then there was Eustace. OH, THE HORROR. It was like he was in a school play. His condescending, annoying obnoxiousness was acted out like a newcomer to the film world. His way of speaking was just trite and completely unrealistic. Absolutely atrocious acting from him; I'd say he was the worst actor of the lot. Not to mention Bill Nighy as Reepicheep. Ever wondered what face would appear next to the dictionary definition of "melodramatic"? Now you've got it. I was cringing in my chair. The climax wasn't near as satisfying as I had hoped. There were certain elements that were ommitted from the film, like how Caspian marries the star (would've loved to see a romance play out, but nothing like that was included).

But I still sort of/kind of liked it. BIG disappointment, though.






...But how does this totally unrelated movie have anything to do with Avatar?

Well, this movie is an example of sequel hype that was dashed by mediocrity. The product, in my most humble opinion, did not deliver. The question is: WILL THIS HAPPEN WITH AVATAR 2? The reason why I'm not worried about Avatar 2 is because,

• James Cameron is still the director.
• Fox is still on board as the studio that started it (even though they also happened to be a part of Dawn Treader, ironically).
• The composer will most-likely stay with the project.
• The actors are mature, and understand what it means to make a quality film, as opposed to many kids.
• The movie has no expectations of loyalty to any source, and Cameron can do whatever he wants with the script because he's the initial creator.
• Jon Landau is still producing (YES YES YES YES!!!).
• Most importantly, Cameron has an outstanding track record of creating amazing sequels.

I'm not worried, and neither should anyone else who loved the Avatar. I trust Cameron. I sincerely trust him to write and direct a sequel that will be above and beyond what we saw in the first installment.

Yeah, I'm kinda worried that this site is going to become a source for spoilers and leaks about the sequel, and I hope I won't have to force myself off of ToS for a year leading up to its release!
