Despite the misconceptions about Canada, we do have an abudance of sunshine and warmth most of the year, but around now it is not uncommon as the first blasts of cold winds start to howl, to realize that winter is right around the corner.
Winter Standing on the peripice between one cold moon of January and one of February Here in the north Alone on the prairie the icy empty cold of winter black, white and paloured grey dim light murkyed clouded full force the gales hit you windchill subzero -50C cutting like an steel knife through all the layers skin and clothing chilling to the bone, your life warmth seeps away and your breath crytalizes frozen ice shards in the air. Stillness absolute deadening silence settles in all around you hopelessness despair weariness sets in life becomes endurance, survival barely in the empty lonely nights of cold spring thaw of last year a distance memory uncertainty juncture icy strands in the mind what if spring doesn't come this time. What if warmth, sun, and green fade away to nothing and only this frozen wasteland remains. *sigh* now, I miss Pandora even more!

I wish it snowed here.
Instead, we have scorching heat and blinding sunshine when summer comes round.

One or two romps in the snow is enough winter for me. Once all the wet and slush begins to make a mess of everything, winter has overstayed it's welcome in my book. Plus that "Snowmaggedon" on the east coast last February cost me a school trip to Washington DC, so my dislike of winter have been particularly strong since.
![]() Nice poem BTW.

Oh, I love winter. The cold, the calm, the snow. I just love it. I like being cold to. I dunno why.
When the thermometer goes over 75 degrees its just to darn hot for me. I don't like it. But the cold, oh yes. It never seems to get cold enough for me here in Illinois. I remember one day last winter where it got down to like 5 degrees Fahrenheit. And was tranquil. I went outside, my breath misting before me. I looked around and the world was the most calm, most peaceful I have ever seen it. As was I. I closed my eyes and took a deep breath of the frosty air and my heart just swelled. As I opened my eyes a few seconds later, everything seemed clearer. The sights, the smells, the slight northern breeze on my cheek. Even the crunch of the snow under me. It was all so real, so crisp. I wish I had more of these moments. Even now my hands are shaking remembering that day. It was truly heavenly.

I've had two winters in the past 12 months. One of them wasn't really a proper winter though, as daytime temps were around 20ish.

I love winter too... I can't get on in the summer, it gets too hot for me and I'm allergic to stuff, plus I think that most things look better with snow
- it was also the middle of winter (early January) when I first saw Avatar and there was thick snow at the time, thinking about that makes me happy ![]() Anyway, beautiful

Thanks everyone!
![]() And as I look out at the first snow that arrived this morning, I am reminded as all of you note, that winter has its own special beauty, joy and wonderment!

I, personally, am a fan of winter too. Great walking weather and I love the feel of the rain and the sight of my breath in the cold air... Maybe just me though...
And I like the poem too, even if I feel somewhat differently about the season itself.

Fall and winter are the best! The cold nights are amazing and I sleep so well when its cool in my room. I always have a really hard time sleeping in the summer time because my bedroom faces the sun and gets really hot! So I say bring on the rain and snow!

LOL! Not sure where either of you live, but here combination of rain and snow is not a good combination, as I can absolutely testify as of today! Skating, or slip sliding, whilst in one tonne of metal in a long line of tin cans .. not fun! Not withstanding, for all my lamenting, after having been pretty much out in it all day, driving, errands, and playing with my grandchild, I was actually quite enjoying the foot of snow that came down over night, Technically its all ready melting, as temps warming up by the weekend, but still old fashion clomping over snow hills, was invigorating!

Also, one more thing I like with winter. If it's too cold, just put on some extra clothes If it's too warm... wanna go naked?... don't think so >.<

Seemingly
nothing moves a still is in the air a hush upon the ground all appears frozen The waters iced over 30 ft deep Yet subtly below the surface of appearance nothing is more than asleep softly flowing the living creatures wait in natures natural cyro hibernation where breath is only the slightest of vibration and waters move at a rhythmic pace and the silver trout does wait. In roots is gathered stored energy All waiting quietly for the thaw of spring. 2011
