See, I think the Trudy/Norm relationship added so much to their characters and the movie. It was something that had nothing to do with Jake and Neytiri, which broadened the scope of things, and it was so wonderful and non-hetronormative - she's the badass marine who found the geeky scientist attractive and hit on HIM (without any angst on his part about not being good enough/man enough/bs like that). And no, I don't think it would have meant adding more scenes at all - we can use our imagination. And depending on timing (need to double-check) Norm could have heard say 'going down' over the comms.
And I absolutely still saw bits of them in the finish movie. And I ship them so, so, so soooo much.
But. Yes. Trudy? Is awesome.
