I go out a lot, it's just that the people I know AFK are not the christian type, instead valuing individuality and freedom
I think this is possibly why you have some of the views that you do have about Christians since you only encounter them on the internet and some of them are loudmouths. We are not like this IRL. In fact, I don't know of any Christian who doesn't value individuality and freedom and I encounter people of many different backgrounds. It helps to have a broader perspective of the world. Unfortunately, the internet doesn't always help in that area .

It's our voices, I think, that breaks the tension, since we gain some knowledge of how the other person "rolls" concerning talking points. You can sort of "tell" a person's attitude by their voice, and what kind of words they use.
This is an example of why it is important to talk to each other face to face. The things that are said on the internet are done anonymously. Most of the heated and nasty arguments that I have seen on the internet would probably not have been done if the people were talking to each other IRL or on Skype, etc. It is one of the drawbacks and it is also why people can be misunderstood so much. Body language and tone of voice is very crucial to understanding what the person is thinking. I think this is where misunderstandings and needless offenses occur. So, please keep in mind that what the person is saying in a post maybe meant a different way then what it seems on the screen .
