Yeah we must be on the same wavelength that has tuned into the frequency sent out by Avatar! Irayo for the offer of help James. Much appreciated. I have sent a little dit, with links to our survey results, to the Science Fiction museum in Seattle. Hopefully they will bite and look to do something for us fans, even if it is just space for us to meet up. I'm not sure what help, if any, will be needed yet. We'll have to wait to see if we get a response. If not, we haven't lost anything. However, if you did want to get involved in helping out with a Avatar convention, the guys over at Avatar Wiki seem to be more than abliging, even if its just for ideas. You can check them out via the link that iPad posted. (iPad is one of the guys involved in their convention committee) To quote a line from the Matrix: "Lets see how far the rabbit hole goes!"

Yeah, me too. I know you'd love it, tsmukan. With it being planned for 2012, that means we all should have plenty of time to save up to go, or convince our folks that it would be a good idea to have a family holiday near the convention!

Well, I thought the idea with ours was to have one for US people and one elsewhere... although I do wish I could go to both

Well, yeah. There's no reason why not if folks want to get together to plan them and things.

It would be great to have a US and Europe Avatar Convention at the same time with some sort of electronic 'tsahaylu' so we could say 'kaltxi' to each other. In fact wouldn't it be cool if people, wherever they are, could have local meet ups or conventions, like in Aus etc, which we could all link up to? Sorry, there goes my imagination again!!

I think my thoughts are...if these guys on Avatar Wiki are looking into a US Avatar Convention, it would be great to pool all our resourses from all the Avatar fan forums to help make it happen so as not to duplicate effort.

Perhaps here, on ToS, we could sort out a Europe Avatar Convention to co-inside with the US one. That way we are not precluding a large proportion of the Avatar fans who would not be able to make it to the US.

Duno, just throwing some thoughts out there for discussion really. It has to be a collective thing and one that we know we can make happen. I'm sure amongst our family we must have the skills and capabilities to bring it together. Just need the will and people to step upto the mark.

As for the Seattle Avatar Exhibition, I sent them a letter 'suggesting' they might like to consider laying something on for us Avatar fans. Nothing may come of it, but your never know. I did this with the IMAX and we got our film shown.

Although we now have the valuable information from the survey, which will help with the planning such events, some questions I did pose to the Avatar Wiki people I'll repeat here. They may sound odd, however, they are to help focus the mind on planning such an event. Please note I've never planned such an event before, but my job as a design engineer has taught me a few questions to ask to help problem solve. I hope they help us ponder:

Why are we doing this?

What is the purpose of having an Avatar Convention?

What are the objectives of an Avatar Convention?

What is the desired outcome we would like from the Avatar Convention?

Well, sorry for rabbiting on. Hope the above is helpful if not thought provoking. We'll get there I'm sure.

Kiyevame,

Alan

That's not a bad idea, but it'd kind of discourage each side to meet with the other.

When there are two meetings, the U.S. side will have people from the U.S. mostly (if not exclusively), and the European side will have people from Europe mostly (if not exclusively). It'd be better if one location were decided so that those most-willing and able to go will go, instead of wait for their side to have a meeting too. Plus it'll be bloody hard to plan two meetings instead of just one.

But still, despite those things... two meetings doesn't sound that bad, considering how most everyone'll have a chance...

HEY! Idea.

What if there were two meetings planned simultaneously in Europe and the U.S... and maybe a couple other places like South America, Australia, etc. (if it isn't too hard... probably will be; scratch that idea), and if there were a live video feed going on in each place, linking everyone directly together? That way, the above-mentioned problems wouldn't exist, and everyone would more or less meet each other.

Yeah you've kinda got it in a nutshell there Woodsprite. It would be great to have it in one location so we could all meet face to face,...but..., as our survey says, most people on the forums are between 16 and 21, which means they probably won't be able to travel for one reason or another.

So differnet locations might be the best way to and if they can be held on the same day to 'virtually meet up' then that might be the happy half way house. But still a lot of planning and organising for a group(s) of people to do.
