Just a quick update folks on the Avatar Convention survey. So far we have 74 responses. I'll be downloading the results into excel on Saturday and pulling them together over the weekend so people can see what the outcome was.

Until then keep encourageing folks to take part!

Kiyevame,

Alan

Kaltxi folks!

Well, we've gone and done it! 100 surveys on the dot!!!

I've spent the weekend (inbetween going to see Avatar at the IMAX...can't believe it's still on there) collating the results from all the surveys into an Excel file with a tab for each question which contains the responses. When I downloaded the data it came with pie charts already created, which was nice! I've also added a few more in selective places to help interpret the information.

The other thing I have done is done a mini write up to summarise the information this is as a word document, which I have also converted to a PDF. Hopefully this will allow those who don't have Excel to still be able to view the results.

I purposely didn't let on what the results were through last week so as not to colour people's thoughts before taking part. However, now the survey it complete I guess you will be wanting to see the results?

Well, I've uploaded the files to Mediafire, so if you just click on the links below they should enable you to open up the files to view. Enjoy:

Excel Version
Word Version
PDF Version

Your thoughts on the collected information will be interesting...

I'll be postings a new thread relating to the information for everyone shortly.

Very interesting

I'd love if we could get some cast or crew there, wouldnt even have to be a Zoe or Sam, just a Jahnel Curfman, or Alicia Vela-Bailey, or Kevin Dorman would be really awesome.
This is a great idea - while it would be amazing to get JC, Zoe or Sam, even having anyone from it would be a great idea and others will likely be less busy and so more likely to be able to

I guess much of the data (age group, etc) is as expected. For the continent, I'd say that if we arrange this then a US and UK/europe one would make sense. Australia/NZ unfortunately have a relatively small group so they would have a harder time reaching somewhere.

Glad you found it interesting James. It might be the first time we have done an Avatar Fan survey. Some really good stuff came out of it.

Yeah, well, I think I mentioned me having a cunning plan? Well, the cunning plan is that I contact the Seattle Science-Fiction museum where the Avatar exhibition is being held and forward the results onto them and 'suggest' the put something on for us fans, even if it is only a meet up area for us all. As I suspect there will be a lot of us there.

Anyway, we'll have to see what they say. There is still time for them to do something I would have thought. As they say, knock and the door will be opened..hopefully!

Besides I would have thought they would have had someone from the Avatar film team to open the exhibition anyway, if not JC. I doubt they would just have the security guard unlock the doors for us to just stampede in!

Kaltxi folks

Just a quick update. I've forwarded the survey result to our friends on Avatar Wiki who are starting the process of organising an Avatar Convention in Washington DC next year. Follow the link left by Matias above to find out more.

Also...

I have forwarded a copy of the results to the Science Fiction museum in Seattle, where the Avatar Exhibition is being held. Don't hold your breath though, we might not hear anything, but you never know...

In the mean time if you have any thoughts on the subject keep posting!

Kiyevame,

Alan

We need something for the non-US people as well!

Yeah, the US is a little far! I would be willing to go almost anywhere in Europe for a convention like this!

...And in order to do that a team of people who are willing to put wheels in motion is required and to liase with those who are planning the one in the US to pool ideas and problem solving and perhaps make them happen on the same day for a link up...

Or perhaps the Science Fiction Museum could be convinced to allow some real-life avatars into the event. I could attach my HD camcorder to my head, have ToS up on a smartphone, and have a live HD webcast here on ToS with people Shoutboxing me instructions on where to go and what to examine. And I would be absolutely obedient.

Oooo, now that is just asking for some fun..."back a bit...a bit further...a bit more......SPLASH!"

Seriously though, that is a really good idea. I have actually send a letter to the Science Museum in Seattle to ask if they are going to be laying anything on for us fans, along with a copy of the Avatar Fan Convention survey results. I'm not holding my breath for a response, but you never know.... I sent it on Saturday so all being well they should receive it by the end of this week.

Anyway, if you are going there mate, I'll keep a look out for you. Shouldn't be hard to spot. I can just imagine someone interstucting you to run into a wall or something...well you did say you "would be absolutely obedient". Sorry, that's just my daft humour for you! It is a good idea, though.

Alas, yes. I am one of the loathsome people who would have to try harder to miss it than to go. My employee ID is even good for 70% off admission.

Yes, such a thing might require the somewhat contradictory establishment of "Avatar Prime Directives," to include such things as, "An avatar does not enter opposite-sex restrooms, intentionally cause injury to him-/herself or others, shout profanity, etc."
