Or more likely, they don't ask, but just think of it as being a slightly strange tshirt, while people who know what it is will recognise it

Count me in! I think the username idea combined with the idea/image posted earlier would be the best.

Front: the Na'Vi handprint
Back: TOS logo and below it the username

Something like what was posted earlier:

I think the idea of a simplistic front is a cool idea where only Avatar fans will recognize it. The back would be more colorful with the logo and the username in "Neytiri Blue" or something like that. I think the shirt color has to be black or a dark blue?

In conclusion.....I NEED ONE NOW!!!! We should get a head count going and a final design made...
