How would you think of the after "Situation" back on earth

So the surviving SecOps of course most of them are going to be wounded, how would you react to one of them.
Would you be impolite to them, show them dis service , or just you know keep it to yourself.
But the main deal here is lets just say your on earth whatever your age is, and whatever country your in, imagine where ever you are(if it hasnt) been basically the city you saw in Avatar overcrowded, bad economy well now its going to be worse since the RDA couldnt deliver the resource.
I mean wouldn't you feel bad for the civies who didn't even do anything wrong now how have to go through the hell because Sully betrayed the resource company and now basically put countries in jeopardy. I mean yea they already are in jeopardy, but it will become even worse.
But anyway what would you do, you know that basically they are returning back to Pandora(U.S. and U.N. support). I mean honestly what would you want to do.
And these weren't SecOps anymore, these were U.S. soldiers following orders from the Government, who enlisted knowing what they are going to do, knowing what orders might come. (And for the love of god I am saying if.)

I think the first thing the public will note is how poorly the RDA handled the situation on Pandora. Sully would've never betrayed the RDA had the RDA acted rationally in the scheme of things... especially noting Quaritch's war on the Na'vi. That was uncalled for.

However, you're right to say the public would ultimately push for the initiative to return to Pandora, or at least to some other moon that possesses unobtanium. As badly as people would disapprove the RDA, they'll have to find some way to conduct mining activities somewhere to get unobtanium. The only company that is capable of doing that is the RDA. Without their resources, the human race would suffer. Sad as it is, it's true.

So in a way, the RDA to the public (at this point) is like gasoline to an environmentalist. There's no other real alternative available, so the best way to deal with the situation is to toughen up and live with it.

People seem to forget, it isn't oxygen or anything. It's used for superconductors, which is a very limited application.

As far as I know, this superconductor is absolutely necessary to conduct comminications, transportation, and almost anything electronic-related since human society has reverted to extremely high "doses" (you could say) of power that require more than just the occasional battery.

I'm assuming if the unobtanium stops flowing in, it'd be the economic equivalent to the American government defaulting on one of its payments to China. Chaos would ensue, and nations would topple.

There's nothing in the movie that suggests unobtainum is absolutely vital to Earth's economy. Selfridge never says anything except that it's worth a lot. His arguments to Grace and Jake are entirely monetary. I would think that if a cut-off in the flow of unobtainium could cause serious economic disruption on Earth and potentially hurt a lot of innocent people he would have used that argument on scientist-Grace rather then the money one.

As for public reaction back on Earth, I could easily see people saying: "You've already spent 50 TRILLION dollars on this fiasco and now you want to spend even more to go back???? Forget it buddy! Spend the money right here on Earth why don't you?" Public anger would be far more likely to be focused on the RDA than the Na'vi. Of course with a big enough advertising budget, the RDA might be able to sway enough people to get its way.

Mankind has dealt with far more threatening issues then having a mineral supply cut off. It might cause economic disruption but life will continue to go on...

But for the amount of money the RDA spends on it's interstellar fleet and operations on Pandora, they could probably devise a way to artificially create a superconducting material similar to unobtainum back on Earth.

It couldn't work in our environment, that's for sure. But using the superconductor on Pandora would be possible for "floating" trains, an achievement which will beat the cr*p out of Maglevs and TGVs. On the other hand, the "pandorans" wouldn't agree for that to happen, because they respect the environment which is directly connected to them and viceversa.

A situation back on Earth would be the same.

More like economic collapse. Mankind has apparently slated its entire investment in unobtanium to put the majority of its inter-planetary transports up for its aquiring from a moon over four lightyears away.

I'd say it's pretty important.

Hmm, well, the supply isn't going to go POOF, it's going to take a number of years for all the ISVs to come in - so, initially, it's going to be the damage to the stock exchange from everything going down.

Which isn't going to be pretty, either.
