Default Does Anyone Else Find It Depressing/Sad...

...that it took a massive earthquake, 1000+ deaths, and 2 possible nuclear core meltdowns, to finally push Charlie Sheen out of the headlines?

Not even the crisis in Libya could do that.

Really shows the priorities of the mainstream media.

"Man, I see in fight club the strongest and smartest men who've ever lived. I see all this potential, and I see squandering. God damn it, an entire generation pumping gas, waiting tables; slaves with white collars. Advertising has us chasing cars and clothes, working jobs we hate so we can buy **** we don't need. We're the middle children of history, man. No purpose or place. We have no Great War. No Great Depression. Our Great War's a spiritual war... our Great Depression is our lives. We've all been raised on television to believe that one day we'd all be millionaires, and movie gods, and rock stars. But we won't. And we're slowly learning that fact. And we're very, very pissed off." - Tyler Durden

What's even sadder is now the regime could feel that they are not being watched quite so closely and may feel emboldened to commit worse atrocities than they have been.

Now I live just outside Los Angeles and I heard a story about Mr. Sheen today...

Exactly

I've thrown up my hands in disgust and stopped watching news on the television a long time ago.

Haven't noticed Charlie Sheen being in the headlines over here in Aus, for what it's worth. So, it's not everywhere.

This is why I started listening to NPR and watching PBS for my news.

But he's a mother****ing F-16 bro!

EDIT: also, Al Jazeera is the best news source out there.

I, personally, could care less about Charlie Sheen or the people affected by the tsunami.
if you feel the need to question me on why please send me a PM (to avoid getting off topic)!!!

But it is sad.

...News is news. Charlie Sheen or not, it isn't like television news is the only news out there. Watch television when you want to see what the news stations have to offer, and find other resources to find out other bits of news that you want to find out about.

It's not that hard... but for some, apparently, it is. And thus, that makes T.V. the evil bad baddies.

to that.^

Yeah, it's stupid, but what annoys me even more is this ridiculous scaremongering.
Woodsprite, I agree, but you have to admit he has been getting far more coverage than he deserved (and I say that without even owning a TV).

I have to agree. Best place for world-relevant news 99% of the time. Not always the first place to have a story, but you NEVER see this kind of garbage-news splattered on the front page.

Yeah, I agree but this happens often. When it is a "slow" news day, they go to the silly stories involving Charlie Sheen, et al. When more serious stuff happens, they go to that story at the expense of ignoring the other serious situations in the world (ie. the Libyan situation). Granted, the Japan earthquake/tsunami is one of the worst on record for Japan so that will get more headlines. Also, its an ongoing disaster so it will get more coverage.
