Default A taste of Inspirata...

I like to keep things a little different, and moreover interesting. To start off, a good portion of my pieces are not in 4/4, but in 3/4 or 5/4 (beware the odd time sigs in my stuff. A 7/4 piece may be coming soon!).

Second, here are some songs that feature clave as a pitched instrument (has it been done before):

Teyra Unil.mp3
Saw Tilora.mp3
Wewtseng.mp3

What I did is recorded a sample of a fiberglass clave (didn't have wood ones available, and besides, fiberglass claves are sharper and better fit for live performances) and worked with that. Apparently, unbeknown to many, the clave has such a strong fundamental frequency that it works quite well to use it as a pitched instrument.

In these songs, I easily resynthesized a diapason (a.k.a. tuning fork) and used that. We usually think of the tuning fork as that little thing used to tune whole orchestras and similar, but with such a unique tone (especiallt the 6th harmonic), I just had to use it. Here I also gave it a bit of a stereo tremolo, much like in the rhodes. The songs:

Atanhi.mp3
Nawmutral.mp3

So far I've labeled most of my stuff as "Ambient" (more like electro-ambient...), although it would be interesting to see the usage of pitched clave and diapason (and other instruments being used as pitched instruments that we don't normally think to use as pitched instruments) across other genres, too, such as jazz, latin, and maybe even classical and rock!

Finally, some other songs in odd time signatures that would otherwise seem like 4/4:

Kllrikx.mp3
Srewyu.mp3
Ram-a-Lusing.mp3
Txampay.mp3

Nice work! Mind if I put these in my shared folder on soulseek? Oh, and definitely do something in 7/4- it's my favourite alternative time sig.
