Default USER POLL: Censoring filter

There seems to be some split opinions regarding the swearing filter we currently have in place here - in other words, automatically replacing swear words with ****s. Some people want it removed, while others would rather see it kept in place.

Because of this, I'm setting up a poll, and will let the community decide on what action should be taken. The poll will last for 10 days, and the final majority will decide the outcome.

Feel free to discuss the issue in this thread, too.

Eltu

Well we probably all know where this is going; the censor filter will probably be voted away (as we've seen many have already condemned it).

But I am still stating that I am completely opposed to this, and urge others to consider the matter carefully concerning the open environment of ToS to all who wish to join.

To quote Larry Moss from "24", "The rules are what make us better."

I do agree with you, personally - but the choice should lie in the hands of everyone.

We all cuss, and hear it everyday through media, the only thing is ToS might be a little more hostile...

I am completely against removing it, and find it to be a terrible idea. So what if we all swear, and hear it every day. This is supposed to be a special place, and I see no need to pollute this place with that nonsense.

Eltu, you never indicated whether this was a "simple majority" thing or not. After all, we are talking about amending the constitution here, which ought not to be done lightly.

I'm with Woodsprite and zongtseng here. Keep the word filter.

There are many places to go on the internet to see uncensored swear words. Why should this place become one of them? I don't see it as a place for that, it's an Avatar forum for god's sake. And if people want to talk without their swear words being impaired, why not go somewhere else? Please, let's keep it peaceful.

This is so weird...

No, I'm being serious. I really thought the censor'd be overwhelmingly voted away.

I'm actually surprised it's not a landslide for KEEPING the word filter. There is simply not ONE positive to removing it. Please don't say it's restricting freedom of speech, or I may have trouble ever taking you seriously again. All it could possibly do is make this place look bad to newcomers. This is not a gaming site, or Youtube comments, or some random message board. This is the Tree of Souls.

I love how the people who are supposedly more vulgar and to be taken "less seriously" (i.e. those of us who want the filter removed) are the ones being more civil throughout this discussion and trying to avoid dispute...

While I don't mind much either way so long as things stay in moderation, I voted to keep it because ultimately we have to consider how it affects the enjoyment of those here on TOS. In one of the options, the effect is more negatively pronounced than the other on one of the groups.

I have not said anywhere here that I find those who swear less mature, or should be taken less seriously. I swear occasionally in RL. I am in chats where swearing occurs all the time, and it doesn't bother me that much. That has nothing to do with ToS, however. I find it inappropriate here, and can simply not think of ONE good reason to remove it. I have not seen anyone give a valid reason (in my mind) for removal.
