I like most hear alot of swaring, and to be houest, I rather not hear in here, a clean and respecful place. The fact is you DO NOT NEED TO BAD LAUNGAGE, to get a point across and some people might.

Mostly I just voted for the filter away because it's a real pain when having to edit my fics to put in an asterix rather than have the whole word converted to them.

I don't think it'd actually change that much - if we wanted to swear, we'd all be doing it here anyway, and there'd be lines of stars all over the places. Or very deliberate spellings. I'm not sure why people are thinking that the removal of the censor is actually going to change things?

I'm all for keeping the censor. Like mentioned above, we hear curse words, we curse ourselves, and we are all mature enough to handle it. But does that mean we need to use those words. No. If you are so angry or so emotional that you need to use those words then you need to chill out, that's not what this place is about. We are about community and friendship and Avatar. Not setting new levels of vocal expression.

Personally, any day I'm on here and don't see a single blanked out curse word is a better day.

I'd say ditch it, it's not like it changes anything, you still know what the person is saying.

If I type "**** the police, I'm pretty sure you don't mentally read it as "asterisk asterisk asterisk asterisk the police", its damn obvious the first word is for unlawful carnal knowledge.

Have not voted yet, but there is one thing the censor cannot do: keep everyone's posts civil and respectful. That responsibility lies individually with all of us, and the presence of asterisks and uncensored swear words both have negative connotations that are not needed in extreme quantities on this site. I realize that there are more uses for swear words other than attacking each other but still...hopefully you get my point.

But it does help.

Seeing the censor on a person's swearing (in my experience in other forums) encourages the person to edit the asterisks away and use an even more potent word that isn't swearing. Thus, more vocabulary is learned, and psychologically, the person tends to stop using swear words over the net.

Technically, the number emitted stays the same, it's the number that strike the surface
