HNM, if I understand you correctly, I agree with you on most things. I don't think there is a political answer to Humanity, or an economic policy that will fix us. I think all of us (myself included) are greedy ****ing bastards who are incredibly short sighted, selfish, uncaring, lazy, lustful arrogant, and ignorant.

Yea, there might be some good things we do, but ultimately we all do some pretty bad stuff. As much as I want to be perfectly good, and love everyone unconditionally and fly to Africa and help feed starving people, I know where I'm waking up tomorrow, and what time I'll leave for school. I'm a lazy selfish dick.

There is one thing I disagree somewhat with you. I don't think it's fair to say the "imaginary friend" is completely controlling, and mind numbing. Yes, there are plenty of people who go to church, and believe in God, because it is a social norm, and is acceptable. And, there have been many times where churches have abused their power. I think that is incredibly sad.

But, I haven't been to church since I was six, on chirstmas eve. I still believe in God, and live my life by him. And, also God doesn't tell me to obey society, and not question anything. God tells me to pursue scientific knowledge, so I can help other people. And God is the reason I think society is s messed up. God tells me that it is corrupt, and that if it is immoral, not to obey it.

I know this isn't the debate thread, but I don't think God is a controlling force at all. I think people forcing social norms onto one another just to have control, (ie: church for some people) is the problem. And I would agree with you in that many religious establishments try to control people, and can be "Cultish" in the way they recruit people.
