what would anyone do with $1.6 trillion? its too much to spend, you could probably buy everything in the world atleast once. i would just have it destroyed whether it was given to me physically or electronically

It's a mess of a world we live in. Full of potential though. Mustn't lose hope. If the movie has anything to say its that the world can change with a change in priorities.

As much as I agree on slashing military spending, especially in the US, that crazy idea that everything can be solved by throwing money at it is insane. I mean, you cannot turn money into water or food. The best you can do is to use that water to create ways to produce these, but even money cannot replenish aquifers, allow water to be used for agriculture AND a flowing river or create land to grow more food on without taking that land away from someone or something. And I'd really like to know how they come to that number for a sustainable society - true sustainability, meaning to keep the planet healthy so it can support our lives, eliminate all consumption of nonrenewable resources and all that - just create a way of living that can go on indefinitely (per definition of sustainability) is not just a matter of money but of dedication and social change. And putting up some windmills and solar panels will not do.
Green capitalism is not the answer, really.

Stopping spending money on defence is, unfortunately, an invitation for disaster with the current state of the world. Instead, money needs to be invested into changing the state of the world so that it can in the future.
When it comes to limitations, like so many other things, the problem is in overpopulation.

Yeah - overpopulation (or actually overconsumption as presently one US person equals about 20 people in some parts of Africa) is really bad.
The problem is, that ever increasing military spending is eating up every gain that otherwise was created. And they call it "cutting military expenses" if they do not increase it in one year as much as in the year before, but they still increase it all the time (the US) Here is a 60 min radio show on the topic: IFYOULOVETHISPLANET Personally I think they could really cut down expenses a lot and still be able to defend themselves. But the US needs that military to send them to foreign countries because they need the resources from there.
