At least finally a good application for space surveillance
 4000 hektars - I think as horrible as that is - in the scope of things it is not even that much. The amount of ongoing deforestation is staggering. It is seveal million (!) hektars a year (in 2005 it was 13 mil), that is about 40.000 each day :,(

This is very sad only, made even worse because people live there. How would you feel if Trump drove a bulldozer over your house?
The sad part is, most likely nothing will be done about it. It's just another "see pg.9" in the news, while who some celebrity is marrying this week is front page.

Sadly, it takes many decades to reclaim the land as a forest and centuries to even come close to something that was lost. I just read an article referencing a study that showed that it took millions of years to establish the diverse ecosystems seen in the Amazon. This is not coming back in a few years of reforestation. Indeed this specific incident is really awful because of the uncontacted people - so it is not just forest and habitat for animals that is going away but also it is stealing land from people (again)

Well, at least they got caught... but it will take a long time to restore that area, if it ever happens... At least catching them sends a message though, but then only if something is actually done afterwards.
