If you're having difficulty enjoying Avatar like you used to, then I suggest trying to find ways which would make you enjoy it. For me, watching Avatar and letting my mind go free works well. I try not to concentrate on anything for long periods of time.
Whether Avatar effects you while you watch it on a tiny or big screen doesn't matter. If Avatar still effects you in one way or another, that's all that matters. I suggest watching it in theaters, not on some tiny monitor screen - I'm sure James Cameron would suggest the same thing.

James Cameron suggested that you should sit as close as you can to your HDTV in an interview.
But, he did say that if you can, sit about 4 feet away.
