A wireless AP on your ceiling will still have range to reach you on the ground. The question is whether or not if there was a source near you and you didn't know it was there, if you were still able to feel the same way. The mind is a powerful thing, and building an association is easier than people think.
You're right that reducing amounts is sensible, but there is a difference between microwave and radio, not to mention the fact that everyone is constantly being reached by both at far higher power levels, (both from higher powered Earth-based sources and sources in space with no negative effects) as well as high energy particles, for that matter.

Also, I finally found some actual information on this:

Tuesday's classification of mobiles as potentially carcinogenic produced some great headlines, despite being based on no additional research or statistical findings and putting phones into the same danger category as coffee.

...

The World Health Organisation categorises loads of things as "potential carcinogens" including lead, bracken fern, the printing process, and working in a dry cleaners, but we live with all of those things and a whole lot more that are harder to spell (25-page PDF/98.3KB). But more annoying was the fact that the classification doesn't result from any additional data, its just a reaction to what we already know.

The WHO has admitted its reclassification is largely down to the Interphone study, a 10-year analysis which did seem to indicate that using a phone more than 30 minutes a day increased the chances of cancer (on which finding the WHO based its classification). But Interphone also discovered that using a phone for less than 30 minutes a day reduced the incidence of cancer – so the WHO should really be recommending that we all make a few calls daily.

There actually is a recognized illness resulting from wireless transmissions. Its just very rare.

Nop, it's all fine now when the AP is up there antennas positioned the right way. Radiation is like light, it does bend everywhere but is very weak below a vertical antenna.
